How GOD Makes our Faith Greater Than our Fear (Part 3 – Laying Aside Sin which So Easily Entangles Us)

laying aside deeds of darknessTherefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us
Let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us
And let us run with endurance the race that is set before us
Hebrews 12:1 (NASB translation)

In this third part of our study in Hebrews 12:1-3, we will examine how laying aside the sin which so easily entangles us, will completely change the way we think, the way we speak, and the way we behave (Rom 13:12-14, Eph 4:22-23).

What is the sin which so easily entangles? To fully understand “the sin which so easily entangles us.” We need to define the phrase in two parts.
The first part, “the sin” is transliterated from the Greek word “hamartia” (NT:266). According to Vine’s Expository Dictionary of Biblical Words, “the sin” does not mean a single type of sin, instead it is the most comprehensive term for turning aside from righteousness. It is used of “sin” as a:
(a) principle or source of action, or an inward element producing acts of disobedience ( Rom 3:9, Rom 5:12-13)
(b) organized governing principle or power (Rom 6:6), that uses the will (the seat of sin) to carry out individual sins throughout the physical body (Rom 6:12-14, Rom 7:17-25, Heb 12:4)
(c) generic term (distinct from specific terms, yet sometimes inclusive of concrete wrong doing ― Jhn 8:21, Jhn 8:34, Jhn 8:46, Jhn 9:41, Jhn 15:22,24)
(d) sinful deed (Matt 12:31, Acts 7:60, James 1:15), or act, (Jam 4:17, Jam 5:15-16)

The second part, “which so easily entangles us” is the English phrase transliterated from the Greek word “euperistatos” (NT:2139). This Greek word does not occur anywhere else in the New Testament, and it means “to skillfully surround.” It is sin which ambushes or attacks from all sides, it never stops bothering the individual, and given the opportunity it will:
(a) persistently hamper forward movement in the Christian walk (Gal 5:7)
(b) doggedly hinder the course set before the Christian, tirelessly attempting to slow down the progress of GOD’s spiritual call to service for every Christian (Act 13:25, Act 20:24, 2 Tim 4:7)
(c) prevent progress to Christian maturity (1 Cor 3:1-3, 2 Tim 3:8, Heb 5:12-14)

Are there examples of this sin? Yes it will present itself in three different ways. First, it will be the unrighteous behavior habitually practiced before coming to JESUS CHRIST. It can be any combination of pride, lying, anger, skepticism, laziness, quarreling, greed, unforgiveness, jealousy, sensuality… These ungodly behaviors will repeatedly try to entangle the child of GOD, by waging war from within them (Rom 7:14-25). Second, this sin will use the lure of ungodly relationships, to ambush the child of GOD (Jam 4:4, 2 Cor 6:14-18, 1 Cor 15:33-34, Psa 14:1↔Pro 13:20). And third, it will try to entice the child of GOD to make use of things offered by men who have chosen to be alienated from GOD (1 Jhn 2:15-17, Heb 11:24-26, 1 Pet 4:1-4).

How can one lay aside that sin? Only through our Beloved LORD JESUS CHRIST! HE rescued us from the authority or power of darkness (Col 1:13), and filled us with the power of HIS Holy SPIRIT (Eph 3:16, Php 4:13, Col 1:11-12), enabling us to lay aside the old sinful self with its deeds of darkness (Eph 4:22, Rom 13:12). We are strengthened daily, by continually drawing near to GOD (Jam 4:8, Psa 73:28, Psa 36:7, Psa 63:7-8); calling upon HIS NAME (2 Sam 22:4, Psa 50:15, Isa 55:6, Pro 18:10); and putting on the righteous garments HE has given us (Isa 61:10, Rom 13:14, Eph 4:24, Col 3:10); which causes our relationship with HIM to grow (1 Jhn 1:5-7).

How does one daily put on righteous garments? By seeking to be in HIS presence (Psa 27:8), through worship (thankfully honoring GOD for WHO HE is, and all HE has done ― Psa 99:1-5), through prayer (respectfully conversing with GOD ― Ecc 5:1-3, Mat 6:5-15, Php 4:13-14), through study (thoroughly learning and acquiring understanding concerning what was learned in HIS WORD ― Ezr 7:10, Psa 119:34, Psa 119:125, Pro 4:7), through meditation (attentively reflecting upon, and intently thinking about HIS WORD ― Psa 4:4, Psa 63:6, Psa 119:15, Psa 119:48, Psa 119:148), and through obedience (carefully doing what HIS WORD says to do, and not doing what HIS WORD says not to do ― Deu 12:28, Mat 7:24-25, Luk 11:28, Eph 5:15, Jam 1:23-25).

But flee from these things, you man of GOD
And pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness
Fight the good fight of faith
Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called
And you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses
I charge you in the presence of GOD, WHO gives life to all things
And of CHRIST JESUS, WHO testified the good confession before Pontius Pilate
That you keep the commandment without stain or reproach
Until the appearing of our LORD JESUS CHRIST
1 Timothy 6:11-14

How GOD Makes our Faith Greater Than our Fear (Part 2 – Laying Aside Encumbrances)

Carrying a heavy burden 2Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us
Let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us
And let us run with endurance the race that is set before us
Fixing our eyes on JESUS, the author and perfecter of faith
Who for the joy set before HIM endured the cross, despising the shame
And has sat down at the right hand of the throne of GOD
For consider HIM who has endured such hostility by sinners against HIMSELF
So that you will not grow weary and lose heart
Hebrews 12:1-3

In this second part of our study in Hebrews 12:1-3, we will define what encumbrances are. We will also examine those who held onto encumbrances versus those who trusted GOD.

What is an encumbrance? An encumbrance is defined as anything that hinders our progress, by weighing us down. An encumbrance is any kind of burden we carry, that causes our obedience to and trust in GOD, to be stalled, obstructed, or restrained.

Are there specific examples of encumbrances? Yes, we will look at four: fear, impatience, self-pity and worry

Fear is to be in dread, to be afraid, or to feel alarmed.
The Israelites from twenty years old and upward, whom GOD delivered out of Egypt, held onto their fear from the shore of the Red Sea, to the border of the promised land (Num 14:28-33, Exd 14:8-12, Num 13:1-33, Num 14:1-4). Though our Beloved LORD GOD had performed miracle after miracle in bringing the nation of Israel out of the cruel bondage in Egypt (Exd chptrs 7-12, Psa 78:40-51), and throughout the wilderness (Psa 78:9-39). The nation of Israel did not believe in HIM (Exd 6:9, Deu 1:30-33, Psa 78:21-22), nor HIS WORD to bring them into the Promised Land (Exd 6:6-8). Their continual unbelief in HIM and rejection of HIS WORD caused them to die in the wilderness (Heb 3:15-19).
Gideon was too afraid to obey The LORD’s commandments by day, so he carried them out at night (Jdg 6:25-27). Gideon knew he had seen the angel of The LORD (Jdg 6:11-22), and trusted in HIS Words (Jdg 6:14-16 Jdg 6:23-24), so though he was afraid, disobedience was not an option. When Gideon felt uneasy about going into battle with enemies that were as numerous as locusts (Jdg 7:12), he did not refuse to obey, instead he asked for confirmation of GOD’s WORD (Jdg 6:36-40). On the eve of battle with 300 men and no weapons (Jdg 7:9-23), Gideon again felt afraid and our Beloved LORD GOD encouraged him to go down with his servant to hear what was being said (Jdg 7:7-15). Gideon’s faith in our Beloved LORD GOD and HIS WORDS was greater than his fear of defeat/death. Our GOD used 301 men, a trumpet, an empty pitcher, and a torch to defeat a mighty army (Jdg 7:16-25). Gideon’s testimony among many other testimonies (Exd 14:13-30, 1 Sam 14:1-23, 1 Chr 14:13-15, 2 Chr 14:2-15, 2 Chr 20:1-30), teaches us why we should not be afraid to obey GOD’s will. And theses testimonies reminds us, that our Beloved LORD GOD ways are not our ways (Isa 55:8). And HE works beyond our understanding (Pro 3:5) so that no man would boast except in HIM (1 Cor 1:26-31).

Impatience is the inability to wait calmly for something desired; incapable of enduring difficult circumstances without complaining.
Aaron did not patiently wait for Moses return as instructed (Exd 24:12-18). Even though he, his sons Nadab, Abihu and 70 elders of Israel had seen and fellowshipped with our Living GOD, and knew that GOD indeed existed (Exd 24:9-11); Aaron not only failed to wait for the return of Moses, nor stand firm against the people’s sinful desires (Exd 32:1), but it was he who personally made the golden calf and an altar to worship it (Exd 32:2-5, Deu 9:20).
King David had many enemies who sought to kill him, but he patiently waited for GOD’s deliverance (Psa 3:1-8, Psa 40:1-4). King Saul and his army hunted him to kill him, yet he did not seek to kill our LORD’s anointed King, he waited for our Beloved LORD’s deliverance (1 Sam 24:1-22, 1 Sam 26:1-25). And when news came that his enemy had been killed (1 Sam 31:1-6), he did not rejoice, instead he mourned (2 Sam 1:1-16, Pro 24:17-18). King David had a heart after GOD, which meant he was obedient to our Beloved LORD GOD’s WORD, and trusted completely in HIM (Act 13:22). As a result, he was never disappointed or ashamed because he believed and patiently waited on our GOD (Psa 25:3, Psa 22:1-5).

Self-pity is to feel sorry for one’s self; be depressed about one’s situation; or resentful about how one is treated. Even those in ministry or those who think they are doing the right thing can be subject to self-pity.
The threat by Jezebel against Elijah the prophet, caused him to flee in fear (1 Kin 19:1-4). Though our Beloved LORD GOD had just used Elijah to do a great work in Israel (1 Kin 18:17-40), Jezebel’s threat to kill Elijah by the next day, caused him to flee to the wilderness in fear, which turned into self-pity (1 Kin 19:1-4). Even still, our compassionate GOD did not condemn him for his self-pity, rather, HE sent HIS angel to strengthen him so he could endure a long journey to the mountain of GOD (1 Kin 19:5-8). Upon Elijah’s arrival at the mountain, our LORD asked him twice “what are you doing here, Elijah?” (1 Kin 19:8-14). Our Beloved LORD GOD didn’t question Elijah because HE needed information. Being GOD, HE knows everything (Pro 15:3, Heb 4:13). Rather, HIS question to Elijah was to provide an opportunity for Elijah to voice the reason he wanted to die (1 Kin 19:4). And in HIS mercy HE visibly demonstrated to HIS prophet he was not alone. Truly HIS presence and the demonstration of HIS power can be found in awesome and powerful manifestations (1 Kin 19:11-12, Exd 19:18, Eze 1:4-28), but HIS faithful servants will also find HIS gentle voice in quiet places (1 Kin 19:12-13, Isa 30:15, Isa 30:21, Mat 10:27).
The older brother of the prodigal son felt resentful about his perceived treatment. His anger and self-pity about not being thrown a party by his father, completely blinded him to the mercy and grace being extended by a loving father to a lost and hurting son (Luk 15:25-32). I have often wondered, since the older brother was aware that his little brother had devoured his father’s wealth with prostitutes (Luk 15:30), why did he not know about the dire situation his little brother was living in (Luk 15:14-16). The older brother’s reaction is a reminder of our Beloved LORD GOD’s WORD in 1 John 4:7-8, “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from GOD; and everyone who loves is born of GOD and knows GOD. The one who does not love does not know GOD, for GOD is love.”

Worry is to feel uneasy, anxious, or nervous.
After the departure from Egypt, the Israelites constantly worried about physical needs (Exd 15:22-25, Exd 16:1-8). Despite GOD’s constant provision for them (Neh 9:20-21), their incessant focus on themselves, did not bring dependence on GOD or gratefulness for HIS provisions (Deu 29:5-6, Psa 118:28-29, 1 Ths 5:18). Instead they had lack of reverence for, nor belief in HIM (Num 14:11). The Israelites, did not cease to grumble, and complain against our Beloved LORD GOD and HIS leaders (Num 14:27, Num 11:1-6).
The righteous who trust GOD are not afraid of men nor circumstances. The attack of men do not make them afraid or uneasy (Psa 56:1-11, Act 4:18-31), nor do circumstances make them nervous (Jer 17:7-8) or anxious (Psa 91:1-9, Psa 94:17-19, 2 Cor 12:7-10, Php 4:10-14).

Cast your burden upon The LORD
And HE will sustain you;
HE will never allow the righteous to be shaken
Psalm 55:22

How GOD Makes our Faith Greater Than our Fear

bible-readingTherefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us
Let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us
And let us run with endurance the race that is set before us
Fixing our eyes on JESUS, the author and perfecter of faith
Who for the joy set before HIM endured the cross, despising the shame
And has sat down at the right hand of the throne of GOD
For consider HIM who has endured such hostility by sinners against HIMSELF
So that you will not grow weary and lose heart
Hebrews 12:1-3

In Hebrews 12:1-3 our Beloved LORD GOD gives us six ways to increase our faith, so that it becomes greater than our fear:
1) So great a cloud of witnesses. Carefully examine all those introduced to us in Hebrews chapter 11, which bear witness that a life of faith in GOD can be achieved in any and all circumstances
2) Laying aside encumbrances. Get rid of anything that hinders our obedience to and trust in GOD
3) Laying aside sin. Abstain from or refuse to continue in those sins so freely indulged in before surrendering our lives to CHRIST
4) Run with endurance. Endure and persevere in living as a follower of CHRIST JESUS (Christian) from your innermost being
5) Fix our eyes on JESUS. Turn your focus from everything and concentrate your gaze upon on JESUS
6) Consider HIM. Look at carefully at; keep in mind; ponder how JESUS lived HIS during HIS time here on earth

So great a cloud of witnesses. Carefully examine all those introduced to us in Hebrews chapter 11 (the great cloud of witnesses who are part of the Hall of Fame of Faith). Our brethren mentioned in the 11th chapter of Hebrews, bear witness or attest to (serve as proof of) that a life of faith in GOD can be achieved in any and all circumstances. Don’t just read their names in the 11th chapter of Hebrews, prayerfully study their lives, in the Books of The BIBLE where their acts of faith were first mentioned. As you read about them, ask our Beloved GOD why HE chose them to bear witness as an example and encouragement in our lives.

For example, in Hebrews 11:4, our Beloved LORD GOD tells us that “by faith Abel offered to HIM a better sacrifice than Cain. So let us examine Abel’s faith in Genesis 4:1-10. In this passage of Scripture, we are given information about him, his brother Cain, and our Beloved GOD’s interaction. But only through prayer and careful examination, are we given insight into Cain, Abel’s faith and our Beloved GOD’s response to and communication with:
• Cain is Abel’s older brother (Gen 4:1-2)
• Cain was a tiller of the ground (gardener), and Abel was a keeper of flocks (shepherd) – (Gen 4:2)
• Cain and Abel both brought offerings, our Beloved GOD accepted both Abel and his offering, but did not accept Cain or his offering (Gen 4:3-5). Just a note for those who have been erroneously taught, “Cain’s offering was not acceptable because it was not a blood offering”. Both blood and bloodless offerings were acceptable to GOD (Lev chapters 1-7). Bloodless offerings from the fruit of the ground including grain were also acceptable for three reasons. First, when the offeror was so poor they could not afford to make a blood offering, our Beloved LORD GOD accepted grain as their offering for sin (Lev 5:1-13). Second, bloodless offerings were also acceptable as thanksgiving for HIS provision (Exd 23:16-19, Exd 34:26), and for worship (Mal 1:11). And finally bloodless offerings symbolizes our lives after salvation (we are living and holy sacrifices ― Rom 12:1, 1 Cor 6:20).

Why then would a person and their offering not be acceptable to GOD?
• When one chooses a life of sin (Pro 3:32, Pro 6:16-19, Pro 11:20, Pro 15:8-9, Isa 1:10-17, Jer 14:10-12)
• When one’s best is not offered (1 Sam 1:3, 1 Sam 2:12-17, Mal 1:6-10)
• When one begrudgingly gives (2 Cor 9:7, Deu 15:7-11, 2 Cor 8:12)

What makes a person and their offering acceptable to GOD?
 • When one chooses to know, trust and obey HIM (Exd 34:13, Psa 25:4-5, Psa 119:33, Luk 3:21-22, Jhn 8:29, Eph 5:6-11, Heb 11:6)
 • When one like Abel desires to give GOD their very best. Abel gave of his firstlings (Gen 4:4). Firstlings are the first of a kind, the first fruit, the first produce, or the first offspring of an animal (Exd 13:1-2).

Could Cain’s offering ever become acceptable? Yes, in fact our Beloved LORD GOD told Cain how is offering could become acceptable (Gen 4:6-7). HE told Cain “to do well” or do what is right in the sight of GOD (Act 10:35). When our heart is right before our Beloved LORD GOD so our offerings (Eph 5:1-2, Rom 12:1, Heb 13:15). And if our heart is not right toward our Beloved LORD GOD neither is our offerings (Pro 28:9).

And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence
So as to realize the full assurance of hope until the end
So that you will not be sluggish
But imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises
Hebrews 6:11-12

Why Did JESUS COME (Part Three – Those who will be Saved)

Beholding and Believing JESUSFor this is the will of MY FATHER
That everyone who beholds The SON and believes in HIM will have eternal life
And I MYSELF will raise him up on the last day
John 6:40

In John 6:40 our Beloved JESUS tells us more specifically about those who will be saved. HE tells us, those who both behold and believe in HIM, will not suffer eternal destruction. It is these who will be awakened in the first resurrection to eternal life and reward.

Exactly what does JESUS CHRIST save us from? Our Beloved JESUS CHRIST saves (delivers, protects, rescues, keep safe and sound) from many things. And to understand this we must look at HIS salvation of us over a continuum:
Immediately upon accepting our merciful GOD’s gift of salvation (Rom 6:23) by believing in JESUS CHRIST (Jhn 3:16, Act 16:31):
o We are saved from Satan’s authority over us (Act 26:18, Col 1:13)
o We are delivered from the bondage of sin (Mat 1:21, Jhn 1:29, 1 Jhn 3:5―Rom 6:1-23, Rom 8:2)
o We are given eternal life (Jhn 5:24, Jhn 12:44, Jhn 20:31, 1 Jhn 5:13)
During our stay upon earth (1 Pet 2:11, Heb 11:13-16):
o We are given Divine help to be victorious over our battles against sin (Rom 7:24-25, 2 Cor 10:3-5, Eph 6:1-18, Php 4:13); schemes of the devil (Eph 6:11-18, Jam 4:7, 1 Pet 5:8) and demonic forces (Eph 2:2, Eph 6:12-18, 1 Jhn 5:19)
o We are saved out of an unbelieving, corrupt, perverse, generation (Act 2:40, Deu 32:5, Php 2:14-15)
At the end of age (1 Ths 4:13-17):
o We are saved from The wrath of GOD to be executed upon the ungodly at the end of this age (Rom 1:18, Rom 5:8-9, 1 Ths 1:10, 1 Ths 5:9, Joe 3:11-16, Rev chptrs 14-16)
o We are delivered from the final destruction of the heavens and earth by fire (2 Pet 3:10-13, Rev 20:11)
Throughout eternity we are protected from the second death (Rev 2:11, Rev 20:6) also known as:
       o Eternal destruction (2 Ths 1:8-9)
       o Eternal fire (Mat 18:8, Mat 25:41, Jud 1:7)
       o Eternal torment (Rev 14:9-11)
o Furnace of Fire (Mat 13:40-42)
       o Hell (Mat 10:28, Mat 18:9, Mrk 9:43-48)
o The lake of fire (Rev 20:12-15, Rev 21:8)

JESUS tells us in John 6:40, those who behold and believe in HIM will have eternal life. Two questions arise:
1. In this present day, how does one behold JESUS CHRIST?
2. What does it mean to believe in JESUS CHRIST?

In this present day, how does one behold JESUS CHRIST? We must understand the word “behold”. The English word “behold” was transliterated from the Greek word “theoreo” (NT: 2334) and it means more than just seeing, it means:
o Perceiving (to grasp mentally, to take hold of, to have understanding), as Job did in his direct communication with GOD (Job chptrs 38-41). It was after this personal level of communication with our Beloved GOD, that Job declared “I have heard of YOU by the hearing of the ear; but now my eyes see you!” (Job 42:5)
o Careful observation by examining closely, or paying special attention to, as the faithful follower of JESUS CHRIST when being taught by The Holy SPIRIT (Jhn 14:26, Jhn 16:13, 1 Cor 2:10-16, 1 Jhn 2:27, Psa 119:97-105)
o Personal experience with ― as experienced by the Samaritans from the city of Sychar (Jhn 4:4-42); or Saul on the road to Damascus (Act 9:1-17, Act 26:12-18, 1 Cor 15:3-8). Job described this experience in Job 29:11; “for when the ear heard, it called me blessed. And when the eye saw, it gave witness of me.” At the initial hearing about our Beloved LORD JESUS CHRIST we blessed HIM (Rom 10:13-17), but when HE opened the eyes of our heart by giving us wisdom and revelation through HIS Holy SPIRIT so that we might have a true knowledge of HIM (Eph 1:17-18) we became HIS witnesses (Act 1:8, Luk 24:44-48, Heb 11:1-40, Heb 12:1-3).

To behold our Beloved JESUS means to have personal knowledge of HIM, not just the initial level of knowledge which comes from hearing about HIM. The deeper personal knowledge of HIM, which comes through a personal relationship with HIM.

What does it mean “to have a personal relationship with JESUS CHRIST”? It is much like any other intimate relationship where you know and are known by the one you are personally involved with (Jhn 10:14, Jhn 10:27, 1 Cor 8:3, Gal 4:9, 2 Tim 2:19, 1 Jhn 2:3-6):
o You get to know each other. JESUS already knows you, even more than you know yourself (Psa 139:1-4, Jer 17:9-10, Mat 9:3-4, Jhn 2:24-25, Heb 4:13). But you get to know HIM by inviting HIM into your heart (Rev 3:20), seeking HIS presence (Psa 27:8, Psa 105:4, Luk 11:5-10) through, prayer, study of HIS WORD (The BIBLE), meditation and worship. When you communicate with HIM through prayer, you talk privately with HIM about situations, circumstances, others, and yourself (Mat 6:5-15, Php 4:6, Eph 6:18, Jam 5:16). When you study HIS WORD, you are reading HIS thoughts, asking HIM for clarification of those thoughts with supporting passages of Scripture, as you get to know HIS ways (Exd 33:13, Psa 25:4, Psa 86:11, Psa 119:33-38, Rom 12:2). When you meditate, you think carefully about HIS WORD you have studied, and what it means as you ask HIM how to walk it out in your life (Jos 1:8, Psa 119:15-16, Psa 119:48). Also during meditation you reflect on HIM and HIS goodness (Psa 63:6-8, Psa 77:12-14, Psa 103:1-10, Psa 145:5). And when you worship HIM, you are seeking to please HIM out of love and respect by walking in the things you learned from HIS WORD (Eph 5:10, Psa 119:1-8, Luk 11:28, Jam 1:25)
o You forsake previous relationships and behaviors that are hostile to your relationship with HIM (Jhn 15:19, 1 Cor 15:33, 2 Cor 6:14-18, Jam 4:4, 1 Jhn 2:15-17)

What does it mean to believe in JESUS CHRIST? It means much more than an acceptance that certain things are true or real. Not only do you accept that JESUS CHRIST is real, and truly the only way to salvation (Act 4:10-12, Tit 2:11, Tit 3:4-6), but you have a trust in HIM that is so complete and a reliance upon HIS WORD that is so absolute, that your faith in HIM does not waver regardless of circumstances (Job 1:13-22, Dan 3:12-30).

How can I get this level of belief? Only through our Beloved JESUS CHRIST. It is HE that gives the initial faith needed to believe in HIM to take that first step toward salvation (Heb 12:2). It is also HIM, WHO over time and through various situations cause those who will trust and love HIM (Jhn 14:15, Jhn 14:21, Jhn 14:23-24), to rely on HIM more and more, as they personally witness HIS faithfulness (Psa 37:25, 2 Tim 2:11-13, 1 Cor 1:9, 1 Ths 5:24) and the faithfulness of HIS WORD in their lives (Isa 55:10-11, Jer 1:12, Luk 16:17).

“So let us know, let us press on to know the LORD.
HIS going forth is as certain as the dawn;
And HE will come to us like the rain,
Like the spring rain watering the earth.”
Hosea 6:3

Why Did JESUS COME (Part Two – Defining The FATHER’s Will)

The Will of HIM WHO sent METhis is the will of HIM who sent ME
That of all that HE has given ME, I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day.
John 6:39

In John 6:39, our Beloved JESUS tells us three things about our Loving FATHER’s will for HIM:
1) That all has been given to HIM, including the souls of men who come to JESUS. Those men would not have come to HIM unless ABBA FATHER drew them (Jhn 6:44, Jhn 6:65) with HIS love (Jer 31:3, 1 Jhn 4:19, 1 Jhn 4:9-10).

Doesn’t this confirm predestination (GOD predestines certain souls to salvation and others to damnation)? No. It is not ABBA FATHER’s desire for anyone to perish (Eze 18:23, 1 Tim 2:3-4, 2 Pet 3:9). HE calls all to salvation, but only a few will accept HIS invitation (Mat 22:1-14). HE has foreknowledge (knowledge or awareness of something before its existence or occurrence), and HE knows the hearts and choices of men, before they are even made (Psa 139:1-4, Jhn 2:24-25, Act 1:24, Act 15:8, Heb 4:13). Just as JESUS knew from the beginning, of the 12 disciples HE chose, which ones would believe in HIM and the one who would not (Jhn 6:64, Jhn 6:70-71, Jhn 13:11).

2) I lose nothing, which literally means “not to destroy, devote or give over to eternal misery” JESUS confirms HE will forever save the man who comes to HIM. HE will indeed give him eternal life.

Doesn’t this confirm “once saved always saved” (when a person becomes a Christian they can never lose their salvation)? No. It is the will of GOD that every soul who believes should continue in the faith, and have a resurrection unto life eternal. But our loving GOD will not force a person to continue to trust in HIM or keep HIS gift of salvation. We choose to accept HIS gift of salvation, we must choose to continue in that salvation to the very end of our life or the end of time (Mat 24:13, Mrk 13:13, Heb 10:36-39). Judas Iscariot just like the other disciples was chosen after all night prayer (Luk 6:12-16). HE was given to JESUS by ABBA FATHER (Jhn 17:12). We have demonstrated from Scripture that it is not ABBA’s will for men to perish. Yet Judas will perish (experience the second death), because of his choices that ultimately led him to betray (Jhn 12:1-6, Luk 22:1-6, Mat 26:47-49) and reject or turn aside from following JESUS (Act 1:16-25). When we choose to cling or hold fast to our Beloved JESUS CHRIST no matter what (Jos 22:5, Psa 63:8, 1 Ths 5:21, Heb 10:35-39), HE will hold fast to us (2 Chr 15:1-2, Psa 125:1-2, Jam 4:8). HE will hold us firmly in HIS hand (Jhn 10:28). And from time to time during our stay here on earth, when we will stumble or sin (Ecc 7:20), HE has already made a provision (1 Jhn 1:9) where HE cleanses and lifts us up (Psa 145:14, Pro 24:16, Mic 7:8). HE holds us with HIS strong right hand, sustaining or supporting us (Psa 37:24, Psa 55:22). HE is mindful of our weaknesses, and gives us HIS Holy SPIRIT to strengthen us (2 Cor 12:7-10, Eph 3:16, Php 4:13).

3) But raise it up on the last day; JESUS HIMSELF (Jhn 6:40) will resurrect HIS sleeping saints and translate HIS living saints at the beginning of the very last day of this present time (1 Cor 15:42-55, 1 Ths 4:14-17, Jhn 11:23-27).

When is the last day? It is also known as the day of The LORD (Isa 3:6-13, Mal 4:5, 1 Ths 5:2-10, 2 Ths 2:1-9, 2 Pet 3:10), the day in which JESUS CHRIST will:
Return (Rev 1:7, Rev 19:11-21, Mat 24:29-31, Mrk 13:14-28, Luk 21:19-28, 2 Ths 2:8).
Destroy the antichrist and his false prophet (Rev 19:19-20, Dan 7:23-26, 2 Ths 2:8).
Resurrect both the righteous and the wicked (Act 24:15)
Judge all men (2 Cor 5:10, Rom 2:16, Act 10:42, Act 17:31, Rom 14:10-12, Rev 22:12).
o The righteous themselves will not be judged, as they are no longer condemned (Rom 8:1) having passed from eternal death into eternal life (Jhn 5:24). But at the judgment seat of CHRIST the quality of their service will be examined, resulting in rewards (1 Cor 3:8-15, Mat 25:31-40, Luk 14:14, Eph 6:7-8, Col 3:24, Heb 6:10, Rev 11:18), also known as crowns ― crown of life (Jam 1:12, Rev 2:10); crown of glory (1 Pet 5:4); the crown of exultation/rejoicing/giving praise (1 Ths 2:19); crown of righteousness (2 Tim 4:8)
o The wicked themselves will be judged; their choices and conduct during their lives (Rev 20:11-15, Col 3:25, Rom 2:4-8, Mat 25:41-46, Mat 16:27).
Destroy the current heavens and earth (2 Pet 3:1-15, Rev 20:11)
o Is GOD going to literally destroy the heavens and earth? Yes, they will literally be destroyed. 2 Peter 3:10 tells us “but the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up” When we examine this Scripture in the original language we find the English phrase concerning the heavens “will pass away” is transliterated from the Greek word “pareleúsontai” (NT: 3928) and it means to perish or be destroyed. And the English word “elements” is transliterated from the Greek word “stoicheía” (NT: 4747) and is defined as the substances of the material world (wind, air, water, fire or all the things that make up the natural environment). Finally, the English word “earth” is transliterated from the Greek word “geé” (NT: 1093) and means the earth as a whole. Several places throughout The BIBLE discuss the literal destruction of the heavens and earth (Isa 13:12-13, Isa 24:1-6, Isa 24:18-19, Isa 51:6, Zep 1:2-3, Zep 3:8, 2 Pet 3:12, Rev 6:12-17, Rev 21:1).
o What heavens will be destroyed? The first and second heavens will be destroyed. The first heaven is earth’s atmosphere where the birds fly. The second heaven is outer space, where the sun, moon, stars other galaxies and planets reside (Isa 51:6).
o Why will the heavens and earth be destroyed? To remove both ungodly spirits, ungodly men and all effects of sin from the places they have inhabited (Isa 13:6-11, Isa 24:21-22, Mat 8:29, Mat 13:40-42, Eph 6:12).
Create new heavens and earth (Isa 65:17, Isa 66:22, Rev 21:1)

What is meant by the “beginning” of the very last day of this present time? One day is as a thousand years for our Beloved LORD GOD (Psa 90:4, 2 Pet 3:8). At the beginning of the last day, Satan will be bound until the end of that day (Rev 20:1-3). Then the saints will be (resurrected) awakened (Rev 20:4-5), their service will be judged, and rewards given (Dan 12:2, Jhn 5:29) including reigning with CHRIST on that very last day (Rev 20:4-6). At the end of that day, Satan will be released from his prison (Rev 20:7), defeated for the final time and cast into the lake of fire (Rev 20:8-10). Then the wicked will be awakened to a resurrection of disgrace, everlasting contempt, judgment and punishment (Dan 12:2, Mat 25:46, Jhn 5:29, Rev 20:11-15).

As for me, I know that my REDEEMER lives
And at the last HE will take HIS stand on the earth
Even after my skin is destroyed
Yet from my flesh I shall see GOD
WHOM I myself shall behold
And WHOM my eyes will see and not another
My heart faints within me!
Job 19:25-27

Why Did JESUS COME (Part One – Doing The FATHER’s Will)

baby-jesus-in-mangerJESUS said to them
MY food is to do the will of HIM who sent ME
And to accomplish HIS work
John 4:34

In Proverbs 4:7 our LORD tells us to not only acquire wisdom be to get understanding. And in Matthew 13:19 and Matthew 13:23, HE shows us that having understanding is the difference between receiving no benefit from hearing The WORD of GOD, and both benefitting and experiencing abundant spiritual growth. So in obedience to The WORD and by help of The Holy SPIRIT of GOD let us seek to get full understanding of why our Savior JESUS CHRIST came to earth, by gaining knowledge of our Heavenly FATHER’s will for HIS coming, and what work HE had to complete.

Our Beloved JESUS HIMSELF tells us in John 6:38-40: 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do MY own will But the will of HIM who sent ME. 39 This is the will of HIM who sent ME, that of all that HE has given ME I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day. 40 For this is the will of MY FATHER, that everyone who beholds The SON and believes in HIM will have eternal life. And I MYSELF will raise him up on the last day. We will examine theses Scriptures in the next 3 studies.

In John 6:38, Scripture tells us that JESUS came from heaven to the earth, to do the will of The FATHER.

Why couldn’t JESUS do The FATHER’s will from heaven? Because HE needed to become human like us:
        1) To make atonement for sin or become reconciled to GOD (Dan 9:4, Rom 5:10, 2 Cor 5:18-19). All of mankind must bear the penalty for sin (Rom 5:12-14, Rom 6:23) because of Adam’s disobedience to the direct command GOD gave to him (Gen 2:16-17). Adam’s sin brought both physical and eternal death to all of mankind. JESUS CHRIST had to become flesh and blood like us, so that through HIS death the requirement for sin would be paid for all time for all mankind who would accept HIS sacrifice on their behalf (Heb 10:1-10, 1 Jhn 2:2, 1 Jhn 4:10).
        2) To be a merciful and faithful High Priest, WHO understands the human battle against sin (Heb 2:17-18, Rom 8:34, Heb 7:24-25).

Did JESUS always do The FATHER’s will? Always! During HIS lifetime HE never veered from doing the will of The FATHER. In every respect, HE did that for which HE was sent to do to the very agonizing end (Jhn 4:34, Jhn 5:30). Knowing the extreme suffering and horrendous death HE would endure our Beloved LORD JESUS CHRIST still suffered and died for us. In the garden of Gethsemane, HIS knowledge of what HE as a human would undergo for our salvation, brought on a very rare condition known as hematidrosis, or blood sweat, as described by the physician Luke (Luk 22:41-44). This condition only occurs when a person is under extreme physical or emotional stress. It has been documented in soldiers waiting to go into battle, or people awaiting execution. Yet HE finished the course!

Therefore when JESUS had received the sour wine
HE said, “It is finished!”
And HE bowed HIS head and gave up HIS spirit.
John 19:30

An Apostate Heart

Apostate heartFor in the case of those who have once been enlightened
And have tasted of the heavenly gift
And have been made partakers of The Holy SPIRIT
And have tasted the good WORD of GOD and the powers of the age to come
And then have fallen away
It is impossible to renew them again to repentance
Since they again crucify to themselves The SON of GOD and put Him to open shame
Hebrews 6:4-6

There are many religious organizations (including those who call themselves Christian) teaching the following heresies or false doctrines:
    • JESUS CHRIST is not the only way to salvation
    • GOD will not destroy the earth
    • Hell does not exist or is not a place of eternal suffering
    • Once saved always saved

Why even mention any of these controversial topics? For at least four reasons. First, our teachings are not our own (Luk 10:16, Jhn 7:16-17, 2 Tim 3:16-17), we teach messages from the BIBLE when HE commands us to teach them (Eze 3:16-21, Act 20:26-27, 2 Tim 4:1-5). Second, the four aforementioned heresies or false doctrines are among the reasons many are turning from the faith. Through them, the consequences of sin, and knowledge of the only way to salvation has been removed. Third, this BIBLE study is meant for those who trust in and follow JESUS CHRIST The Nazarene (Mrk 16:5-7, Act 22:8), it is not meant for the wicked nor those unwilling to hear (Mat 7:6, 2 Ths 2:10-12, 2 Tim 4:3-4, 1 Jhn 4:5-6). Fourth, we are never called to shrink back from teaching truth (Act 4:1-22, Act 5:25-33, 1 Cor 9:16↔ Eze 33:1-9, 2 Tim 4:5).

Through Scripture we will provide the truth these heresies or false doctrines oppose:
JESUS CHRIST is the only way to salvation! Only through JESUS CHRIST can we be saved (Jhn 10:10, Jhn 14:6, Act 4:10-12). HE is the only way to salvation in this life, and only through HIM can we receive eternal life at our resurrection (Jhn 6:40, Jhn 5:29). HE is the judge (2 Cor 5:10, Jhn 5:22, Act 17:31, Rom 2:16, 2 Tim 4:1) that will either reward us and allow us to enter into eternal life or be turned away to a second, eternal death (Mat 7:21-23, Mat 25:31-46, Luk 13:22-28, Rev 20:11-15, Rev 21:8).
GOD will destroy both the heavens and the earth. GOD will indeed destroy both present heavens and earth with fire (2 Pet 3:7, 2 Pet 3:10-12) and create new ones (Isa 65:17, Isa 66:22, 2 Pet 3:13, Rev 21:1).
Hell does exist, and is a place of eternal suffering. Hell is spoken of throughout The BIBLE, many times by our Beloved LORD JESUS CHRIST. Hell is indeed a place of eternal suffering, and is known by several names:
    o eternal destruction (2 Ths 1:8-9)
    o eternal fire (Mat 18:8-9, Mat 25:41-46, Jud 1:7)
o furnace of fire (Mat 13:40-42, Mat 13:49-50)
    o lake of fire (Rev 19:19-20, Rev 20:10, Rev 20:11-20, Rev 21:8)
    o outer darkness (Mat 8:12, Mat 22:13, Mat 25:30)
    o second death (Rev 2:11, Rev 20:6, Rev 20:14-15, Rev 21:8)
    o unquenchable fire (Isa 1:28-31, Isa 66:24, Mat 3:12, Mrk 9:43-48, Luk 3:17)
Enduring until the End. Our beloved LORD JESUS CHRIST tells us in Matthew 24:12-13, that because lawlessness or sin is increased (1 Jhn 3:4), most people’s love will grow cold (Jhn 14:15, Jhn 14:21, Jhn 14:23-24). But the one who endures to the end shall be saved. However “once saved always saved” (also referred to as eternal security) is a teaching contrary to The WORD of GOD (The BIBLE). “Once saved always saved” asserts that once a person is truly “born of God” or “regenerated” by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, nothing in heaven or earth can cause them to fall away from the faith or go back to their unsaved condition. There are many Scriptures that refute this false teaching, we will look at the following three.
First, the opening Scripture Hebrews 6:4-6 warns us that one who has been enlightened (made to see; given evidence; filled with saving knowledge) concerning the gospel of JESUS CHRIST (Jhn 1:9, Act 26:18, 2 Cor 4:6, Eph 1:18-23, Heb 6:4); tasted (personally experienced) both the goodness and kindness of THE LORD (Psa 34:8, 1 Pet 2:3) as well as HIS WORD (Psa 119:103, Heb 6:4-5); and have been a partaker (to have a share of; participate in, partner with) of The Holy SPRIT of GOD (Isa 55:1, Jhn 4:10-14, Jhn 7:37-38) is one who has truly been reborn. And according to Hebrews 6:6, this one can fall away from the faith.
Second, Hebrews 10:36-39, also warns the righteous that endurance in living by faith and doing GOD’s will brings the promise of eternal life (Heb 10:36, Heb 9:15, Tit 1:2), but shrinking back from that faith and HIS will brings destruction.
Third, 2 Peter 2:20-23, tells us that one who has escaped the defilements of and ungodly life or unsaved condition, by the knowledge of our Beloved LORD and SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST, and has known the way of righteousness; then turns back to that unsaved condition, that condition becomes become worse than the state they were first in before salvation.

Exactly, how does one “fall away from the faith”? The term “fall away from the faith” (1 Tim 4:1) means to:
 abandon (Pro 4:1-2)
 defect from (Isa 1:2-4)
 forsake (2 Ths 2:3)
 leave behind (1 Kin 14:8-10)
 withdraw from (Jhn 6:60-69)
 turn away from (2 Tim 4:3-4)
It should be noted, that every instance of “falling away from the faith” was a willful decision. The apostate was not snatched, seized (taken by force), plucked (grabbed and pulled away) ― Jhn 10:28-29. Just as they made a decision to trust in GOD and accept HIS free gift, they make a decision to stop trusting in HIM and reject HIS gift.
A person who abandons their faith, will always begin by rejecting a portion of The BIBLE that conflicts with their life choice(s). They will begin to reject more and more of The BIBLE until they reject our Beloved LORD JESUS CHRIST as the only way to salvation. Many apostates when turning away, claim to be truth seekers; they are not, they have rejected Truth to seek beliefs that more align with their wicked lifestyles (Rom 1:21-32, 2 Ths 2:10-12).

Can’t you have a relationship with GOD without believing in JESUS CHRIST? No, only through The SON of GOD (JESUS CHRIST the Nazarene) can you have a relationship with GOD (Jhn 14:6, Psa 2:7-12, Jhn 16:2-3, 1 Jhn 4:1-3, 1 Jhn 4:15, 1 Jhn 5:1-2). JESUS CHRIST is the very foundation of the Christian faith (Isa 28:16, 1 Pet 2:4-8, Act 4:10-12, 1 Cor 3:10-11), and every single book of The BIBLE points to HIM and HIS redemptive work (Luk 24:44-45).

Is that the reason it is impossible for the apostate to be renewed again to repentance? Yes, only JESUS CHRIST could pay the debt for our sins (Rom 6:23, Psa 49:7-9), and when an apostate rejects JESUS CHRIST, willfully returning to a sinful life; they reject the only way to salvation and repentance (Heb 10:26-31).

Does that mean an apostate can never be saved? Only if they continue to reject our Beloved LORD JESUS CHRIST, they cannot be saved. But if before they experience physical death or the return of our Beloved LORD JESUS CHRIST; they humble themselves (acknowledge they were wrong), pray for forgiveness for their rejection of GOD’s only begotten SON, and turn back to GOD, they can still be saved.

But as for those who turn aside to their crooked ways
The LORD will lead them away with the doers of iniquity
Peace be upon Israel
Psalm 125:5

A Disobedient Heart

Disobedience a heart turned awayThe LORD has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men
To see if there are any who understand
Who seek after GOD
They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt
There is no one who does good, not even one
Psalm 14:2-3

When I prayed to my Beloved LORD GOD concerning the foundational Scripture for a disobedient heart, HE gave me the aforementioned Scripture (Psa 14:2-3). HE revealed to me that this BIBLE study like all other in this series, examines the disobedient heart of believers. It will specifically look at two types of disobedient believers:
       1. those who once knew HIM but have turned away from HIM
       2. those who profess to know HIM but their lifestyle confirm they do not

Before we look at them, let’s take a moment to understand what it means to be disobedient. The English word “disobedient”:
Is transliterated from the Hebrew word “mārâ” (OT:4784) and means to rebel (go against or defy authority), be contentious (always ready to argue, quarrelsome). This would be an example of the nation of Israel which came out of Egypt (Neh 9:26). This nation was indeed believers in GOD, they prayed to HIM for deliverance when under the cruel bondage of the Egyptians (Exd 3:7). But from the edge of the Red Sea to the edge of the Promised Land they were contentious (Exd 14:10-12, Deu 1:26-32), not trusting in or obeying GOD (Exd 16:19-28, Psa 78:17-22).
Is transliterated from the Greek word “parakoeés” (NT:3876), and means refusal or unwillingness to hear. This would be an example of Adam (Rom 5:19). Our Beloved LORD GOD gave him access to any tree in the garden, only one tree HE commanded Adam not to eat from (Gen 2:16-17). Adam however refused to listen to GOD and ate from the tree (Gen 3:6), though he was not deceived by anything the serpent (Gen 3:4-5, Rev 12:9) said to Eve (1 Tim 2:14).
Is transliterated from the Greek word “apeithēs” (NT:545) and means unpersuadable, contumacious (a stubborn person who refuses to obey rules; an example of contumacious is someone who will absolutely not wear a seat belt because they don’t like to be told what to do). This is an example of men in the last days (2 Tim 3:2). A further example of this type of disobedience is from the Old Testament. King Jehoiakim of Judah burned The WORDs of The LORD GOD rather than listen, repent and obey (Jer 36:1-26). And Pharaoh refused to let GOD’s people go (Exd 5:1-2) because he thought he could defy The ALMIGHTY.
According to the 5th edition of Webster’s New World college dictionary, to be disobedient is to refuse to obey; fail to follow rules or commands, etc.; insubordinate (someone not submissive to authority, nor willing to follow orders). This is an example of those who pretend to be GOD’s people, but refuse to obey HIM (Luk 6:46, Psa 78:34-37, Eze 33:30-33).

Now, as we look at the first group of disobedient believers, those who once knew GOD but have turned away from HIM; we are looking at apostates (those who abandon, turn away, or fall away from faith in GOD―Jer 7:24, Jer 8:5, 2 Ths 2:3, 1 Tim 4:1). They accepted the invitation to Salvation and then turned away. Our Beloved LORD JESUS CHRIST demonstrates this truth through a parable from Matthew 22:1-14 and Luke 14:15-24. Many people received and accepted an invitation from the King to come to HIS SON’s wedding banquet. But at the dinner hour, when the banquet was ready, they turned from their acceptance, citing other interests. Even today, many people were invited through Salvation to the marriage supper of The Lamb (Rev 19:9-Jhn 1:29, Luk 14:15, Luk 22:15-16), they accepted the invitation to Salvation and then turned away in apostasy. They turned away from GOD (Isa 1:4, Jer 32:33, Heb 6:4-6), and they turned away from HIS WORD (Psa 50:17, Jer 32:33, Heb 10:26-31).

Why did they turn away? It was a process that started with no longer loving GOD more than all else (Deu 6:5, Psa 73:25, Php 3:8, Rev 2:4-5). Their love grew lukewarm (Rev 3:15-16), and finally cold (Mat 24:12). When they stopped loving GOD, they became corrupted (Deu 32:5-6, Zep 3:7, Eph 4:22), defiled (Eze 20:31, 2 Pet 2:10), stained (Rom 2:17-24, Jam 1:27), and they changed into a state worse than the one they were in before Salvation (1 Cor 15:33, Luk 11:24-26).

How can I know that I am not an apostate? The fact that you are going through this BIBLE study, and concerned that you might be, is proof that you have not abandoned your faith in GOD. Crisis of faith is not abandonment of faith. If you are struggling with your faith, or struggling with your walk, seek HIM out through worship (Deu 4:29-31, Psa 63:1, Psa 105:4), draw near to HIM through prayer (Mat 11:28, Heb 7:25, Jam 4:8), turn from your sins (Isa 55:6-7, Act 26:20), ask HIM for forgiveness and refreshing (1 Jhn 1:9, Act 3:19), and finally make sure you continually meeting with others who walk closely to our GOD (Heb 10:25).

Looking at the second group of disobedient believers, or those who profess to know HIM but their lifestyle confirm they do not (Tit 1:16, 1 Jhn 1:5-7, 1 Jhn 2:3-6). This group like demons believe in GOD (Jam 2:19, Mat 8:28-32, Mar 1:23-26), but are believers or followers “in name only” (Isa 48:1-2, Rom 2:17-24, 2 Cor 11:13-15). They pretend obedience to our Beloved LORD GOD (Mat 21:28-32, Mat 23:27-28). However, their disobedient hearts do whatever they want, instead of The FATHER’s will (Job 21:14-15, Mat 23:1-3), while mingling among believers as if they are also (Mat 7:15-20, Act 20:29-30).

Why do these disobedient believers mingle among true believers? Out of greed (1 Tim 6:5, Tit 1:11, 2 Pet 2:3, Jud 1:16), out of lust (2 Pet 2:12-15, Jud 1:17-18), and out of pride (Jhn 7:18, Jhn 12:42-43, 1 Tim 6:3-4).

He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul,
But he who is careless of conduct will die.
Proverbs 19:16

Knowing HIS VOICE

Knowing HIS VoiceBut HE who enters by the door is a Shepherd of the sheep
To HIM the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear HIS voice
And HE calls HIS own sheep by name and leads them out
When HE puts forth all HIS own, HE goes ahead of them
And the sheep follow HIM because they know HIS VOICE
A stranger they simply will not follow
But will flee from him
Because they do not know the voice of strangers
John 10:4-5

In previous BIBLE studies, we examined Knowing GOD. We looked at three separate groups of people, who thought they knew GOD but did not:
       1) The first group of people are found in Matthew 7:21-23. This group felt that not only did they know HIM but they served HIM. They declared HIS authority over their lives (‘Lord, Lord’ – Mat 7:21-22) though they did not submit to it (Luk 6:46). They thought knowing HIS NAME meant they knew HIM. They taught others through teaching and preaching that HE was the only Savior. They believed they demonstrated that HE knew and worked with them because they cast out demons, and performed many miracles in HIS NAME (Jhn 3:2, Act 2:22, 2 Cor 12:12, Heb 2:3-4). But HE rejected them because they rejected HIS WORD (you who practice sin/lawlessness-Mat 7:23, 1 Jhn 3:4-10). Their disobedient lifestyle testified that they did not know HIM (1 Jhn 2:3-6).
       2) The second group of people are found in Matthew 25:1-13. This group like the first group declared HIS authority over their lives (‘Lord, Lord’ – Mat 25:11) though they did not live CHRIST centered lives (2 Sam 22:29) directed by HIS WORD (Psa 19:8, Psa 119:105, Pro 6:23). This group thought HE knew them, and waited for HIS return (Mat 25:11-12, Amo 5:18-20). Their actions however, showed their lives weren’t lived in readiness for HIS sudden return (Mat 25:7-13, Luk 12:35, Eph 5:15-17, 1 Ths 5:2-8, Rev 3:14-16).
       3) The third group of people are found in Luke 13:22-28. This group like the first two groups also declared HIS authority over their lives (Lord, open up to us – Luk 13:25); they thought they knew HIM because of association with HIM (Luk 13:26). Yet they did not know HIM (Tit 1:16, 1 Jhn 1:5-7), because their hearts were unrighteous and they habitually lived evil lives (all you evildoers-Luk 13:27, Eze 33:30-32, 1 Jhn 3:18, 3 Jhn 11).

Do you really know HIM? Do you really have a relationship with HIM? Would HE really be your companion (2 Cor 6:14-17, Jam 4:4)? This is an excellent time to stop and closely examine your life; probe and test the way you are living.

Let us examine and probe our ways,
And let us return to The LORD.
Lamentations 3:40

I considered my ways
And turned my feet to YOUR testimonies.
I hastened and did not delay
To keep YOUR commandments.
Psalm 119:59-60

I delight to do YOUR will, O my GOD;
YOUR LAW is within my heart.”
Psalm 40:8

If after prayerful examination you can say “I know The LORD, I am indeed still in the faith” (2 Cor 13:5, Jhn 15:4-5, Gal 5:19-26). Can you also say “I know HIS VOICE” as stated in the opening Scriptures Jhn 10:4-5?
Do you believe The BIBLE is The WORD of GOD? (Jhn 1:1, Jhn 1:14, Mat 17:5, Mrk 9:7, Luk 9:35―Mat 5:17-20, Luk 24:44-45)
Do you believe that The BIBLE is Truth? (Psa 119:142, Psa 119:151, Psa 119:160, Dan 10:21)
Do you understand The BIBLE? (Jhn 8:43, Isa 6:8-10, Mat 13:10-17, Heb 5:12-14)
Do you know when GOD is speaking and when HE is not? (Jhn 8:47, Jhn 18:37, 1 Jhn 2:21, Jhn 16:13, 1 Jhn 4:4-6, Jhn 14:6, 2 Ths 2:10-12, 2 Tim 3-4)

In this section of the BIBLE study we will examine Knowing HIS VOICE. We will look at Samuel, Job and Martha. Three individuals who lives appeared to know HIM. It was only after they heard HIS voice for themselves, did they come to know HIM:
Samuel (1 Sam 1:1-28―Samuel’s mother Hannah earnestly prayed for a son, and promised to dedicate her son to The LORD if HE answered her prayer)
o even though Samuel ministered to The LORD before Eli the priest, he did not know The LORD or HIS VOICE (1 Sam 2:11, 1 Sam 2:18, 1 Sam 3:1-10)
o It was not until he listened to the instructions of his master Eli to respond and listen to the voice of GOD, did he personally come to know GOD’s voice (1 Sam 3:11-21)
o Samuel’s ministering to The LORD before Eli the priest (1 Sam 2:11) allowed him to know the requirements of temple service, but until HE knew GOD and HIS VOICE for himself, he could not know what GOD required of him (Mic 6:6-8, Deu 10:12-13).
Job (Job 1:1―Per GOD’s testimony of Job, he was a blameless, upright man who feared GOD and turned away from evil)
o Job knew The WORD of GOD:
          he knew about sin and the burnt offerings (before the sacrifice of our Beloved LORD JESUS CHRIST) required for forgiveness of unintentional sin (Job 1:5, Lev 4:1-35)
         he knew at birth we came with nothing and at death we will leave with nothing (Job 1:21, Ecc 5:15)
he understood the omnipotence of our Beloved LORD GOD, WHO alone had the power to make rich and make poor (Job 1:21, Gen 24:35, Gen 26:12-13, Deu 8:18, 1 Sam 2:7-8, Pro 10:22), to give children and withhold children (Psa 127:3, Gen 18:6-14, Gen 33:5, Gen 48:8-9, Psa 113:9, Isa 8:18)
         he understood what distinguished the wise from the foolish Job 2:10, Mal 3:18)
       he understood both good and adversity came from our Beloved LORD GOD (Job 2:9-10, Ecc 7:14)
         he understood true wisdom and all power belongs to GOD alone (Job 12:13-25)
        he knew that GOD was living, was his Redeemer and would one day resurrect him from the dead (Job 19:25-27)
        he knew the end for the wicked (Job 21:30-31, Psa 73:1-19) though the life and the death of the wicked appeared to be at ease with honor (Job 21:7-29, Job 21:32-34)
        he knew GOD’s heart for the worker (Job 31:13-15, Deu 24:14-15, Jam 5:1-6), the widow, the orphan, the poor (Job 31:16-23, ), and the immigrant (Job 31:32, Deu 10:17-21, Deu 24:17-19, Jer 22:3) “Then I will draw near to you for judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers and against the adulterers and against those who swear falsely, and against those who oppress the wage earner in his wages, the widow and the orphan, and those who turn aside the alien and do not fear Me,” says The LORD of Hosts (Mal 3:5).
o Job did not understand that his righteousness came from GOD (Job 32:1-3, Job 35:1-8, Job 41:11, Rom 11:35, Rev 4:10-11). And It was not until our Beloved LORD GOD addressed Job directly, that he came to know HIM, HIS ways and HIS voice (Job 42:1-6, Job chptrs 38-41)
Martha (Luk 10:38―a woman who invited JESUS as a guest into her home) did not understand:
o her presence with JESUS was more important than her service to HIM (Luk 10:39-42)
o HE was there to share food with her that endures to eternal life (Jhn 6:26-35, Rev 3:20)
o HE came to her home for salvation (Luk 19:1-10, Luk 7:36-50, Jhn 11:1-46)
o HE did not come for merely eating and drinking (Mat 6:25, Mat 9:10-13, Rom 14:17)

To truly know our Beloved LORD GOD and to know HIS voice, we must know HIS ways (Exd 33:13, Psa 103:7). HE will never contradict The BIBLE (Mat 5:17-19)! The BIBLE is HIS WORD (Exd 31:18, Exd 32:15-16, 2 Tim 3:16, 2 Pet 1:21), it is HIMSELF (Jhn 1:1). So let us press on to understand our Beloved LORD JESUS, by knowing HIM, knowing HIS voice, and knowing HIS ways.

But let him who boasts, boast of this
That he understands and knows ME
That I am The LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth
For I delight in these things,” declares The LORD
Jeremiah 9:24

Loving Like JESUS

Loving like JESUSA new commandment I give to you
That you love one another
Even as I have loved you
That you also love one another
John 13:34

How do we love like JESUS? To love like JESUS is to love beyond the world’s standards. To love without getting anything in return. The world:

• Loves those who love them (Luk 6:32)

• Will do good to those who will do good to them (Luk 6:33)

• Will lend to those whom they expect to get something out of it, whether it is a return of what was given (Luk 6:34) or some other advantage (Mat 6:1-4)

When loving like JESUS, you:

• Walk in love with all (Eph 5:2)
Both with those who love you (Jhn 13:35, 1 Pet 1:22), but also with those who hate you (Luk 6:27)

• Pray for those who hate and mistreat you (Luk 23:34, Act 7:59-60)
Even after death, our Beloved LORD JESUS blood cried for forgiveness, not revenge (Heb 12:24↔Gen 4:8-10, Rev 6:9-10, Mat 26:28, 1 Jhn 1:7)

• Do good to all (Mat 5:45)
Those who do good to you (Heb 6:10, Luk 7:4, Act 10:1-2), but also those who cannot (Luk 14:12-14) or will not do good to you (Luk 6:27, Exd 23:4-5, Pro 25:21-22, Rom 12:20)

• Are gracious to all (Psa 37:21)
Freely and cheerful giving, without expecting anything in return (Deu 7:8-9, Pro 14:31, Pro 19:17, Pro 28:27, 1 Chr 29:14)

• Are kind to ungrateful and evil men (Luk 6:36)

• Are merciful, always having a capacity to forgive or show kindness (Mat 18:23-35, 1 Cor 13:5, 2 Cor 5:19, 1 Pet 4:8)

Why is it a new commandment to love others like HE loves us? Because it is more than loving others as much as you love yourself (Lev 19:18, Gal 5:14), it is loving others more than you love yourself. It is a sacrificial love (1 Jhn 3:16, Php 2:17, 1 Ths 2:8)

The one who does not love does not know GOD, for GOD is love.
1 John 4:8
