An Apostate Heart

Apostate heartFor in the case of those who have once been enlightened
And have tasted of the heavenly gift
And have been made partakers of The Holy SPIRIT
And have tasted the good WORD of GOD and the powers of the age to come
And then have fallen away
It is impossible to renew them again to repentance
Since they again crucify to themselves The SON of GOD and put Him to open shame
Hebrews 6:4-6

There are many religious organizations (including those who call themselves Christian) teaching the following heresies or false doctrines:
    • JESUS CHRIST is not the only way to salvation
    • GOD will not destroy the earth
    • Hell does not exist or is not a place of eternal suffering
    • Once saved always saved

Why even mention any of these controversial topics? For at least four reasons. First, our teachings are not our own (Luk 10:16, Jhn 7:16-17, 2 Tim 3:16-17), we teach messages from the BIBLE when HE commands us to teach them (Eze 3:16-21, Act 20:26-27, 2 Tim 4:1-5). Second, the four aforementioned heresies or false doctrines are among the reasons many are turning from the faith. Through them, the consequences of sin, and knowledge of the only way to salvation has been removed. Third, this BIBLE study is meant for those who trust in and follow JESUS CHRIST The Nazarene (Mrk 16:5-7, Act 22:8), it is not meant for the wicked nor those unwilling to hear (Mat 7:6, 2 Ths 2:10-12, 2 Tim 4:3-4, 1 Jhn 4:5-6). Fourth, we are never called to shrink back from teaching truth (Act 4:1-22, Act 5:25-33, 1 Cor 9:16↔ Eze 33:1-9, 2 Tim 4:5).

Through Scripture we will provide the truth these heresies or false doctrines oppose:
JESUS CHRIST is the only way to salvation! Only through JESUS CHRIST can we be saved (Jhn 10:10, Jhn 14:6, Act 4:10-12). HE is the only way to salvation in this life, and only through HIM can we receive eternal life at our resurrection (Jhn 6:40, Jhn 5:29). HE is the judge (2 Cor 5:10, Jhn 5:22, Act 17:31, Rom 2:16, 2 Tim 4:1) that will either reward us and allow us to enter into eternal life or be turned away to a second, eternal death (Mat 7:21-23, Mat 25:31-46, Luk 13:22-28, Rev 20:11-15, Rev 21:8).
GOD will destroy both the heavens and the earth. GOD will indeed destroy both present heavens and earth with fire (2 Pet 3:7, 2 Pet 3:10-12) and create new ones (Isa 65:17, Isa 66:22, 2 Pet 3:13, Rev 21:1).
Hell does exist, and is a place of eternal suffering. Hell is spoken of throughout The BIBLE, many times by our Beloved LORD JESUS CHRIST. Hell is indeed a place of eternal suffering, and is known by several names:
    o eternal destruction (2 Ths 1:8-9)
    o eternal fire (Mat 18:8-9, Mat 25:41-46, Jud 1:7)
o furnace of fire (Mat 13:40-42, Mat 13:49-50)
    o lake of fire (Rev 19:19-20, Rev 20:10, Rev 20:11-20, Rev 21:8)
    o outer darkness (Mat 8:12, Mat 22:13, Mat 25:30)
    o second death (Rev 2:11, Rev 20:6, Rev 20:14-15, Rev 21:8)
    o unquenchable fire (Isa 1:28-31, Isa 66:24, Mat 3:12, Mrk 9:43-48, Luk 3:17)
Enduring until the End. Our beloved LORD JESUS CHRIST tells us in Matthew 24:12-13, that because lawlessness or sin is increased (1 Jhn 3:4), most people’s love will grow cold (Jhn 14:15, Jhn 14:21, Jhn 14:23-24). But the one who endures to the end shall be saved. However “once saved always saved” (also referred to as eternal security) is a teaching contrary to The WORD of GOD (The BIBLE). “Once saved always saved” asserts that once a person is truly “born of God” or “regenerated” by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, nothing in heaven or earth can cause them to fall away from the faith or go back to their unsaved condition. There are many Scriptures that refute this false teaching, we will look at the following three.
First, the opening Scripture Hebrews 6:4-6 warns us that one who has been enlightened (made to see; given evidence; filled with saving knowledge) concerning the gospel of JESUS CHRIST (Jhn 1:9, Act 26:18, 2 Cor 4:6, Eph 1:18-23, Heb 6:4); tasted (personally experienced) both the goodness and kindness of THE LORD (Psa 34:8, 1 Pet 2:3) as well as HIS WORD (Psa 119:103, Heb 6:4-5); and have been a partaker (to have a share of; participate in, partner with) of The Holy SPRIT of GOD (Isa 55:1, Jhn 4:10-14, Jhn 7:37-38) is one who has truly been reborn. And according to Hebrews 6:6, this one can fall away from the faith.
Second, Hebrews 10:36-39, also warns the righteous that endurance in living by faith and doing GOD’s will brings the promise of eternal life (Heb 10:36, Heb 9:15, Tit 1:2), but shrinking back from that faith and HIS will brings destruction.
Third, 2 Peter 2:20-23, tells us that one who has escaped the defilements of and ungodly life or unsaved condition, by the knowledge of our Beloved LORD and SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST, and has known the way of righteousness; then turns back to that unsaved condition, that condition becomes become worse than the state they were first in before salvation.

Exactly, how does one “fall away from the faith”? The term “fall away from the faith” (1 Tim 4:1) means to:
 abandon (Pro 4:1-2)
 defect from (Isa 1:2-4)
 forsake (2 Ths 2:3)
 leave behind (1 Kin 14:8-10)
 withdraw from (Jhn 6:60-69)
 turn away from (2 Tim 4:3-4)
It should be noted, that every instance of “falling away from the faith” was a willful decision. The apostate was not snatched, seized (taken by force), plucked (grabbed and pulled away) ― Jhn 10:28-29. Just as they made a decision to trust in GOD and accept HIS free gift, they make a decision to stop trusting in HIM and reject HIS gift.
A person who abandons their faith, will always begin by rejecting a portion of The BIBLE that conflicts with their life choice(s). They will begin to reject more and more of The BIBLE until they reject our Beloved LORD JESUS CHRIST as the only way to salvation. Many apostates when turning away, claim to be truth seekers; they are not, they have rejected Truth to seek beliefs that more align with their wicked lifestyles (Rom 1:21-32, 2 Ths 2:10-12).

Can’t you have a relationship with GOD without believing in JESUS CHRIST? No, only through The SON of GOD (JESUS CHRIST the Nazarene) can you have a relationship with GOD (Jhn 14:6, Psa 2:7-12, Jhn 16:2-3, 1 Jhn 4:1-3, 1 Jhn 4:15, 1 Jhn 5:1-2). JESUS CHRIST is the very foundation of the Christian faith (Isa 28:16, 1 Pet 2:4-8, Act 4:10-12, 1 Cor 3:10-11), and every single book of The BIBLE points to HIM and HIS redemptive work (Luk 24:44-45).

Is that the reason it is impossible for the apostate to be renewed again to repentance? Yes, only JESUS CHRIST could pay the debt for our sins (Rom 6:23, Psa 49:7-9), and when an apostate rejects JESUS CHRIST, willfully returning to a sinful life; they reject the only way to salvation and repentance (Heb 10:26-31).

Does that mean an apostate can never be saved? Only if they continue to reject our Beloved LORD JESUS CHRIST, they cannot be saved. But if before they experience physical death or the return of our Beloved LORD JESUS CHRIST; they humble themselves (acknowledge they were wrong), pray for forgiveness for their rejection of GOD’s only begotten SON, and turn back to GOD, they can still be saved.

But as for those who turn aside to their crooked ways
The LORD will lead them away with the doers of iniquity
Peace be upon Israel
Psalm 125:5

A Disobedient Heart

Disobedience a heart turned awayThe LORD has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men
To see if there are any who understand
Who seek after GOD
They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt
There is no one who does good, not even one
Psalm 14:2-3

When I prayed to my Beloved LORD GOD concerning the foundational Scripture for a disobedient heart, HE gave me the aforementioned Scripture (Psa 14:2-3). HE revealed to me that this BIBLE study like all other in this series, examines the disobedient heart of believers. It will specifically look at two types of disobedient believers:
       1. those who once knew HIM but have turned away from HIM
       2. those who profess to know HIM but their lifestyle confirm they do not

Before we look at them, let’s take a moment to understand what it means to be disobedient. The English word “disobedient”:
Is transliterated from the Hebrew word “mārâ” (OT:4784) and means to rebel (go against or defy authority), be contentious (always ready to argue, quarrelsome). This would be an example of the nation of Israel which came out of Egypt (Neh 9:26). This nation was indeed believers in GOD, they prayed to HIM for deliverance when under the cruel bondage of the Egyptians (Exd 3:7). But from the edge of the Red Sea to the edge of the Promised Land they were contentious (Exd 14:10-12, Deu 1:26-32), not trusting in or obeying GOD (Exd 16:19-28, Psa 78:17-22).
Is transliterated from the Greek word “parakoeés” (NT:3876), and means refusal or unwillingness to hear. This would be an example of Adam (Rom 5:19). Our Beloved LORD GOD gave him access to any tree in the garden, only one tree HE commanded Adam not to eat from (Gen 2:16-17). Adam however refused to listen to GOD and ate from the tree (Gen 3:6), though he was not deceived by anything the serpent (Gen 3:4-5, Rev 12:9) said to Eve (1 Tim 2:14).
Is transliterated from the Greek word “apeithēs” (NT:545) and means unpersuadable, contumacious (a stubborn person who refuses to obey rules; an example of contumacious is someone who will absolutely not wear a seat belt because they don’t like to be told what to do). This is an example of men in the last days (2 Tim 3:2). A further example of this type of disobedience is from the Old Testament. King Jehoiakim of Judah burned The WORDs of The LORD GOD rather than listen, repent and obey (Jer 36:1-26). And Pharaoh refused to let GOD’s people go (Exd 5:1-2) because he thought he could defy The ALMIGHTY.
According to the 5th edition of Webster’s New World college dictionary, to be disobedient is to refuse to obey; fail to follow rules or commands, etc.; insubordinate (someone not submissive to authority, nor willing to follow orders). This is an example of those who pretend to be GOD’s people, but refuse to obey HIM (Luk 6:46, Psa 78:34-37, Eze 33:30-33).

Now, as we look at the first group of disobedient believers, those who once knew GOD but have turned away from HIM; we are looking at apostates (those who abandon, turn away, or fall away from faith in GOD―Jer 7:24, Jer 8:5, 2 Ths 2:3, 1 Tim 4:1). They accepted the invitation to Salvation and then turned away. Our Beloved LORD JESUS CHRIST demonstrates this truth through a parable from Matthew 22:1-14 and Luke 14:15-24. Many people received and accepted an invitation from the King to come to HIS SON’s wedding banquet. But at the dinner hour, when the banquet was ready, they turned from their acceptance, citing other interests. Even today, many people were invited through Salvation to the marriage supper of The Lamb (Rev 19:9-Jhn 1:29, Luk 14:15, Luk 22:15-16), they accepted the invitation to Salvation and then turned away in apostasy. They turned away from GOD (Isa 1:4, Jer 32:33, Heb 6:4-6), and they turned away from HIS WORD (Psa 50:17, Jer 32:33, Heb 10:26-31).

Why did they turn away? It was a process that started with no longer loving GOD more than all else (Deu 6:5, Psa 73:25, Php 3:8, Rev 2:4-5). Their love grew lukewarm (Rev 3:15-16), and finally cold (Mat 24:12). When they stopped loving GOD, they became corrupted (Deu 32:5-6, Zep 3:7, Eph 4:22), defiled (Eze 20:31, 2 Pet 2:10), stained (Rom 2:17-24, Jam 1:27), and they changed into a state worse than the one they were in before Salvation (1 Cor 15:33, Luk 11:24-26).

How can I know that I am not an apostate? The fact that you are going through this BIBLE study, and concerned that you might be, is proof that you have not abandoned your faith in GOD. Crisis of faith is not abandonment of faith. If you are struggling with your faith, or struggling with your walk, seek HIM out through worship (Deu 4:29-31, Psa 63:1, Psa 105:4), draw near to HIM through prayer (Mat 11:28, Heb 7:25, Jam 4:8), turn from your sins (Isa 55:6-7, Act 26:20), ask HIM for forgiveness and refreshing (1 Jhn 1:9, Act 3:19), and finally make sure you continually meeting with others who walk closely to our GOD (Heb 10:25).

Looking at the second group of disobedient believers, or those who profess to know HIM but their lifestyle confirm they do not (Tit 1:16, 1 Jhn 1:5-7, 1 Jhn 2:3-6). This group like demons believe in GOD (Jam 2:19, Mat 8:28-32, Mar 1:23-26), but are believers or followers “in name only” (Isa 48:1-2, Rom 2:17-24, 2 Cor 11:13-15). They pretend obedience to our Beloved LORD GOD (Mat 21:28-32, Mat 23:27-28). However, their disobedient hearts do whatever they want, instead of The FATHER’s will (Job 21:14-15, Mat 23:1-3), while mingling among believers as if they are also (Mat 7:15-20, Act 20:29-30).

Why do these disobedient believers mingle among true believers? Out of greed (1 Tim 6:5, Tit 1:11, 2 Pet 2:3, Jud 1:16), out of lust (2 Pet 2:12-15, Jud 1:17-18), and out of pride (Jhn 7:18, Jhn 12:42-43, 1 Tim 6:3-4).

He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul,
But he who is careless of conduct will die.
Proverbs 19:16

An Unforgiving Heart

An Unforgiving HeartPursue peace with all men
And the sanctification without which no one will see The LORD
See to it that no one comes short of the grace of GOD
That no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble
And by it many be defiled
Hebrews 12:14-15

In the opening Scriptures, we are commanded to pursue peace with all men (Psa 34:14, Rom 14:19), sanctification or holiness (2 Cor 7:1, 1 Pet 1:13-16), to be diligent to live according to HIS WORD so we do not fall short of HIS grace (Psa 119:101, Jer 14:10-12), and keep watch over our hearts so that no root of bitterness springs up (Pro 4:23, Deu 29:14-18).

In this BIBLE study we are going to examine how unforgiveness keeps us from peace with all men. And how that unforgiveness can cause us to fall short of GOD’s grace.

In Hebrews 12:14, we are called to “pursue” peace. The English word “pursue” has been transliterated from the Greek word “diookoo” (NT:1377), and it means to:
        • earnestly seek after
        • to endeavor to acquire
        • to strive for
        • to devote oneself to
So if you are not doing all that you possible can, at all times, to ensure peace between yourselves and all others, then you are not in obedience.

How can one possibly keep this commandment? Before you reject this teaching as impossible to do, remember, HIS commandments are not burdensome (1 Jhn 5:3, Mat 11:29-30). If you are joined in faith to JESUS CHRIST, then it is by HIS strength (Php 4:13, 2 Cor 12:9) you will keep HIS commandments (Jhn 15:4-5, Psa 55:22, Psa 68:19-20, Isa 46:4). Our Beloved GOD has given us the power, HIS Holy SPIRIT, to obey HIS Will (Zec 4:6, Isa 40:29, Isa 41:10, Eph 3:16). All you have to do is ask HIM for help (Psa 34:15, Psa 42:5, Psa 46:1, Psa 121:1-8).

What does “peace with all men” mean? It means to live in unity or harmony with fellow Christians (Psa 133:1-3) and to live in love towards all others (Col 3:14, 1 Pet 4:8, Mat 5:44).

How can you love those who refuse to love you? Through forgiveness (Pro 19:11, Mrk 11:25-26, Eph 4:32, Col 3:13), through compassion (Exd 23:4-5, 2 Chr 28:8-15, Pro 24:17-18, Pro 25:21-22, Rom 12:20-21), and through prayer (Luk 6:28). We have examples of men who prayed for those who mistreated them:
        • Moses prayed for Miriam who led her brother Aaron in slandering Moses (Num 12:1-16)
        • Samuel the prophet who prayed for the nation of Israel though he felt rejected by them (1 Sam 8:1-9, 1 Sam 12:23)
        • Job prayed for this three friends who continually tortured him through their counseling and attitudes about the reasons for his suffering (Job 19:1-22, Job 42:7-9)
        • Our Beloved JESUS CHRIST prayed for those who were crucifying HIM (Luk 23:32-34, Isa 53:12)
        • Stephen prayed for those who were stoning him to death (Acts 7:51-60)

How can you be at peace with someone who refuses to be at peace with you? If you re-read Hebrews 12:14, you will see that HE commanded us to “pursue peace” not “be at peace”. That means walking in love regardless of others behavior. Our Beloved LORD JESUS knows there will be times, when though we are for peace, there will be those who will look for war (Psa 120:5-7, Psa 109:4-5). It is as those times we must not engage with our enemies hostilities (Luk 6:29-36, 1 Pet 2:21-23), do what is right in GOD’s sight (Exd 23:4-5, Rom 12:17-21, Pro 24:17-18), and continue to entrust yourself to our Beloved LORD GOD (1 Sam 24:1-22, 1 Pet 4:19).

How can unforgiveness cause us “come short of the grace of GOD”? To fully understand this, we must first understand:
        • what is “the grace of GOD”
        • how can we come short of it
        • and how do we “see to” following the command

What is the grace of GOD? The grace of GOD has been defined as the unmerited or undeserving favor of GOD given to all who deserve to receive HIS worst. This definition is accurate, but HIS grace is so much more! We will examines Scriptures throughout HIS Holy WORD to understand.

The grace of GOD is:
• One of HIS many attributes, qualities, or characteristics (Exd 34:6-7, Neh 9:17, Psa 86:15, Psa 103:8-10, Jam 5:11). Because HE is merciful (Luk 6:36), HE will extend mercy (1 Pet 1:3, Luk 18:35-43). Because HE is gracious (Psa 116:5), HE will extend grace (Eph 2:8, Rom 5:8). Because HE is forgiving (Psa 78:38-39), HE will extend forgiveness (Psa 130:3-4, 1 Jhn 1:9). And because HE is gracious, merciful and forgiving, HE will extend compassion, mercy, lovingkindness, forgives and grace to those who do not deserve it and cannot earn it (Ezr 9:5-15, Rom 5:8, Eph 2:8-10). As demonstrated in Proverbs 12:10, one cannot give what they do not have.

• Our dearly beloved JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF (Jhn 1:14-17, Tit 2:11-14, Tit 3:4-7). WHO, although HE was GOD, HE became a man (Jhn 1:1, Jhn 1:14, Php 2:5-8), and offered HIS sinless body as the payment for our sins (Mat 1:21-23, Heb 10:4-10, Isa 43:11, Psa 98:1-3). Our Precious JESUS CHRIST is the visual image of our GOD’s grace (Jhn 3:16, 1 Cor 1:4, Eph 2:4-8)!

• HIS Holy SPIRIT (Heb 10:29, Zec 12:10). HIS Holy SPIRIT, is the grace sufficient for us (2 Cor 12:9); HE is The Power (Luk 24:49, Act 1:8, 2 Tim 1:7) that perfects us in our weaknesses. HE completes what our weakness lack (Eph 3:16, Col 1:11); through HIM there is not one trial, test or challenge we cannot face (Php 4:13, 2 Tim 4:17, 1 Pet 5:7-11).

• HIS gifts HE freely bestows on us through HIS Holy SPIRIT (Rom 15:15-16, 1 Cor 12:4-11, Eph 3:8-9)

• Expressed by HIS favor, which is HIS approval (Luk 2:40, Luk 2:52), HIS acceptance (Gen 6:5-9, Luk 1:26-33), HIS support (Exd 33:12-18, 2 Tim 4:16-18, 1 Pet 2:19-20) and HIS friendship (Jam 2:21-23, 2 Chr 20:5-17)

• Expressed by HIS kindness (Psa 145:17), which is HIS tenderheartedness (Gen 3:21-24, Eze 16:1-6, Joe 2:18, Rom 5:8), our Precious JESUS CHRIST (Tit 3:4-5, 1 Pet 2:3)

• Expressed by HIS continual faithfulness (Deu 7:9, Deu 32:4, Psa 36:5, Psa 119:90, 1 Ths 5:24, 2 Tim 2:13)

How can we come short of it? We fall short of the GOD’s grace when we do not extend the grace HE gives us, to others (2 Sam 22:26-28, Pro 11:17, Mat 5:7). This point is first made concerning forgiveness, by our Beloved LORD JESUS CHRIST as HE teaches us to pray (Mat 6:14-15) and then demonstrated in detail in Matthew 18:21-35.

How do we “see to it” that we do not coming short of the grace of GOD as mentioned in Hebrews 12:15? First to “see to it” means to “make sure”, “be careful”, or “make certain”. Second through love (Pro 10:12, 1 Pet 1:22, 1 Pet 4:8-9) and that love is the same level that you love yourself (Mat 22:39, Luk 10:25-37).

For I say to you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees
You will not enter the kingdom of heaven
Matthew 5:20

Knowing HIS VOICE

Knowing HIS VoiceBut HE who enters by the door is a Shepherd of the sheep
To HIM the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear HIS voice
And HE calls HIS own sheep by name and leads them out
When HE puts forth all HIS own, HE goes ahead of them
And the sheep follow HIM because they know HIS VOICE
A stranger they simply will not follow
But will flee from him
Because they do not know the voice of strangers
John 10:4-5

In previous BIBLE studies, we examined Knowing GOD. We looked at three separate groups of people, who thought they knew GOD but did not:
       1) The first group of people are found in Matthew 7:21-23. This group felt that not only did they know HIM but they served HIM. They declared HIS authority over their lives (‘Lord, Lord’ – Mat 7:21-22) though they did not submit to it (Luk 6:46). They thought knowing HIS NAME meant they knew HIM. They taught others through teaching and preaching that HE was the only Savior. They believed they demonstrated that HE knew and worked with them because they cast out demons, and performed many miracles in HIS NAME (Jhn 3:2, Act 2:22, 2 Cor 12:12, Heb 2:3-4). But HE rejected them because they rejected HIS WORD (you who practice sin/lawlessness-Mat 7:23, 1 Jhn 3:4-10). Their disobedient lifestyle testified that they did not know HIM (1 Jhn 2:3-6).
       2) The second group of people are found in Matthew 25:1-13. This group like the first group declared HIS authority over their lives (‘Lord, Lord’ – Mat 25:11) though they did not live CHRIST centered lives (2 Sam 22:29) directed by HIS WORD (Psa 19:8, Psa 119:105, Pro 6:23). This group thought HE knew them, and waited for HIS return (Mat 25:11-12, Amo 5:18-20). Their actions however, showed their lives weren’t lived in readiness for HIS sudden return (Mat 25:7-13, Luk 12:35, Eph 5:15-17, 1 Ths 5:2-8, Rev 3:14-16).
       3) The third group of people are found in Luke 13:22-28. This group like the first two groups also declared HIS authority over their lives (Lord, open up to us – Luk 13:25); they thought they knew HIM because of association with HIM (Luk 13:26). Yet they did not know HIM (Tit 1:16, 1 Jhn 1:5-7), because their hearts were unrighteous and they habitually lived evil lives (all you evildoers-Luk 13:27, Eze 33:30-32, 1 Jhn 3:18, 3 Jhn 11).

Do you really know HIM? Do you really have a relationship with HIM? Would HE really be your companion (2 Cor 6:14-17, Jam 4:4)? This is an excellent time to stop and closely examine your life; probe and test the way you are living.

Let us examine and probe our ways,
And let us return to The LORD.
Lamentations 3:40

I considered my ways
And turned my feet to YOUR testimonies.
I hastened and did not delay
To keep YOUR commandments.
Psalm 119:59-60

I delight to do YOUR will, O my GOD;
YOUR LAW is within my heart.”
Psalm 40:8

If after prayerful examination you can say “I know The LORD, I am indeed still in the faith” (2 Cor 13:5, Jhn 15:4-5, Gal 5:19-26). Can you also say “I know HIS VOICE” as stated in the opening Scriptures Jhn 10:4-5?
Do you believe The BIBLE is The WORD of GOD? (Jhn 1:1, Jhn 1:14, Mat 17:5, Mrk 9:7, Luk 9:35―Mat 5:17-20, Luk 24:44-45)
Do you believe that The BIBLE is Truth? (Psa 119:142, Psa 119:151, Psa 119:160, Dan 10:21)
Do you understand The BIBLE? (Jhn 8:43, Isa 6:8-10, Mat 13:10-17, Heb 5:12-14)
Do you know when GOD is speaking and when HE is not? (Jhn 8:47, Jhn 18:37, 1 Jhn 2:21, Jhn 16:13, 1 Jhn 4:4-6, Jhn 14:6, 2 Ths 2:10-12, 2 Tim 3-4)

In this section of the BIBLE study we will examine Knowing HIS VOICE. We will look at Samuel, Job and Martha. Three individuals who lives appeared to know HIM. It was only after they heard HIS voice for themselves, did they come to know HIM:
Samuel (1 Sam 1:1-28―Samuel’s mother Hannah earnestly prayed for a son, and promised to dedicate her son to The LORD if HE answered her prayer)
o even though Samuel ministered to The LORD before Eli the priest, he did not know The LORD or HIS VOICE (1 Sam 2:11, 1 Sam 2:18, 1 Sam 3:1-10)
o It was not until he listened to the instructions of his master Eli to respond and listen to the voice of GOD, did he personally come to know GOD’s voice (1 Sam 3:11-21)
o Samuel’s ministering to The LORD before Eli the priest (1 Sam 2:11) allowed him to know the requirements of temple service, but until HE knew GOD and HIS VOICE for himself, he could not know what GOD required of him (Mic 6:6-8, Deu 10:12-13).
Job (Job 1:1―Per GOD’s testimony of Job, he was a blameless, upright man who feared GOD and turned away from evil)
o Job knew The WORD of GOD:
          he knew about sin and the burnt offerings (before the sacrifice of our Beloved LORD JESUS CHRIST) required for forgiveness of unintentional sin (Job 1:5, Lev 4:1-35)
         he knew at birth we came with nothing and at death we will leave with nothing (Job 1:21, Ecc 5:15)
he understood the omnipotence of our Beloved LORD GOD, WHO alone had the power to make rich and make poor (Job 1:21, Gen 24:35, Gen 26:12-13, Deu 8:18, 1 Sam 2:7-8, Pro 10:22), to give children and withhold children (Psa 127:3, Gen 18:6-14, Gen 33:5, Gen 48:8-9, Psa 113:9, Isa 8:18)
         he understood what distinguished the wise from the foolish Job 2:10, Mal 3:18)
       he understood both good and adversity came from our Beloved LORD GOD (Job 2:9-10, Ecc 7:14)
         he understood true wisdom and all power belongs to GOD alone (Job 12:13-25)
        he knew that GOD was living, was his Redeemer and would one day resurrect him from the dead (Job 19:25-27)
        he knew the end for the wicked (Job 21:30-31, Psa 73:1-19) though the life and the death of the wicked appeared to be at ease with honor (Job 21:7-29, Job 21:32-34)
        he knew GOD’s heart for the worker (Job 31:13-15, Deu 24:14-15, Jam 5:1-6), the widow, the orphan, the poor (Job 31:16-23, ), and the immigrant (Job 31:32, Deu 10:17-21, Deu 24:17-19, Jer 22:3) “Then I will draw near to you for judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers and against the adulterers and against those who swear falsely, and against those who oppress the wage earner in his wages, the widow and the orphan, and those who turn aside the alien and do not fear Me,” says The LORD of Hosts (Mal 3:5).
o Job did not understand that his righteousness came from GOD (Job 32:1-3, Job 35:1-8, Job 41:11, Rom 11:35, Rev 4:10-11). And It was not until our Beloved LORD GOD addressed Job directly, that he came to know HIM, HIS ways and HIS voice (Job 42:1-6, Job chptrs 38-41)
Martha (Luk 10:38―a woman who invited JESUS as a guest into her home) did not understand:
o her presence with JESUS was more important than her service to HIM (Luk 10:39-42)
o HE was there to share food with her that endures to eternal life (Jhn 6:26-35, Rev 3:20)
o HE came to her home for salvation (Luk 19:1-10, Luk 7:36-50, Jhn 11:1-46)
o HE did not come for merely eating and drinking (Mat 6:25, Mat 9:10-13, Rom 14:17)

To truly know our Beloved LORD GOD and to know HIS voice, we must know HIS ways (Exd 33:13, Psa 103:7). HE will never contradict The BIBLE (Mat 5:17-19)! The BIBLE is HIS WORD (Exd 31:18, Exd 32:15-16, 2 Tim 3:16, 2 Pet 1:21), it is HIMSELF (Jhn 1:1). So let us press on to understand our Beloved LORD JESUS, by knowing HIM, knowing HIS voice, and knowing HIS ways.

But let him who boasts, boast of this
That he understands and knows ME
That I am The LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth
For I delight in these things,” declares The LORD
Jeremiah 9:24

An Ungrateful Heart

A complaining tongue reveals an ungrateful heartNow the people became like those who complain of adversity in the hearing of The LORD
And when The LORD heard it, HIS anger was kindled, and the fire of The LORD burned among them
And consumed some of the outskirts of the camp
Numbers 11:1

Why is an ungrateful heart a destructive spiritual condition of the heart that leads to death? There are many reasons, but we will discuss two in this study.

First, an ungrateful heart is a sinful heart, because it is an unbelieving heart. It is a heart that does not:

  • believe in our Beloved LORD GOD (Deu 1:32, Deu 9:23, Zep 3:1-2)
  • have confidence that HE can or will deliver (Psa 78:22, Num 13:25-33, Num 14:1-11, Heb 3:19)
  • have trust in HIS WORDS (Psa 106:24, 2 Chr 36:15-16, Jer 6:16-19)
  • believe that HE is a rewarder of those who seek HIM (Heb 11:6, Mat 7:7-11, Psa 84:11, Rom 8:32)

An ungrateful heart, belongs to a person who does not operate from faith. And when one does not operate from faith, they sin (Rom 14:23); and we know that sin leads to death (Rom 6:23, Jam 1:15).

Second, an ungrateful heart is a heart that finds fault with GOD (Num 14:1-4, Job 9:11-35, Job 10:1-22, Job 32:2, Job 40:1-8, Job 42:1-6). An ungrateful person complains about adversity (Num 11:1) instead of being grateful in all circumstances (1 Thes 5:18). When an ungrateful person continues to find fault with GOD, they will eventually begin to spurn and blaspheme HIM (Num 14:11, Exd 32:4, Neh 9:18, Psa 106:19-22, Rev 16:9-11, Rev 16:21). And their refusal to repent of their ingratitude, will lead them to death and destruction (Isa 1:4-6, Pro 17:10, Pro 27:22, Jer 5:3, Eze 33:11).

How does a complaining tongue reveal an ungrateful heart? An ungrateful heart cannot understand that every moment, every detail and every circumstance in our lives, is part of GOD’s providential working in our lives (Rom 8:28). An ungrateful heart cannot understand that our Beloved GOD has made both the day of prosperity and the day of adversity (Ecc 7:14), causing them to foolishly only accept good times from HIM (Job 2:9-10).

Does a person with an ungrateful heart know GOD? No. Remember that an ungrateful heart is also an unbelieving heart. And an unbelieving heart is a disobedient heart (Jer 7:22-28, Jam 1:22-25).

Are there those who think they know GOD and do not? Yes, there are many who think they do (Mat 7:21-23, Mat 25:1-13, Luk 13:22-27). But acknowledgement of, is not intimacy with (Jam 2:19, Pro 3:32).

How can we be sure that we know HIM? The answer is found in 1 John 2:3-6 as follows:

By this we know that we have come to know HIM
If we keep HIS Commandments
The one who says, “I have come to know HIM,” and does not keep HIS Commandments
Is a liar, and the truth is not in him
But whoever keeps HIS WORD, in him the love of GOD has truly been perfected
By this we know that we are in HIM
The one who says he abides in HIM
Ought himself to walk in the same manner as HE walked

So every Christian has a grateful heart? A very good question, especially when you know that a grateful heart is a believing heart. And you cannot truly be a follower of JESUS CHRIST (a Christian) if you do not live a life that puts complete trust in HIM and HIS WORDS. This is such a perfect opportunity to just stop, take a moment and prayerfully ask our Beloved LORD JESUS “am I indeed living a life of trust in YOU? (2 Cor 13:5); “do I first seek YOUR counsel on matters, or do I trust myself in how I should proceed?” (Pro 3:5-8); “do I do what YOU say, or as I please?” (Luk 6:46); “is my public life as YOUR follower reflect the same one I live privately, and in my innermost thoughts?” (Mat 23:27-28). If you find that you need course correction simply follow HIS instructions from 1 John 1:9:

If we confess our sins, HE is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness

A Hardened Heart

Hardened-HeartsTherefore, just as the Holy SPIRIT says,
“TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE,
DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS AS WHEN THEY PROVOKED ME,
AS IN THE DAY OF TRIAL IN THE WILDERNESS,
WHERE YOUR FATHERS TRIED ME BY TESTING ME,
AND SAW MY WORKS FOR FORTY YEARS.
“THEREFORE I WAS ANGRY WITH THIS GENERATION,
AND SAID, ‘THEY ALWAYS GO ASTRAY IN THEIR HEART,
AND THEY DID NOT KNOW MY WAYS’;
AS I SWORE IN MY WRATH,
‘THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST.'”
Hebrews 3:7-11

When we read about lethal heart conditions in The WORD of GOD, most of us thinks HE’s talking about the unbeliever. But please realize that HIS WORD was written for us (Rom 15:4), HIS followers. That is why we must ask HIM specifically what is HIS WORD is addressing in our own lives.

In this study we will look at men who heard HIS words, and experienced HIS miracles; yet their hardened hearts kept them from understanding the miracles and intimately knowing The Miracle WORKER. We will look at a warrior, a king and 9 lepers. Let’s start by reading about them in HIS Holy WORD:
The warrior – Judges 6:1-16, Judges 7:1-25, Judges 8:22-27
The King – 2 Chronicles 14:1-15, 2 Chronicles 16:1-9
9 lepers – Luke 17:11-19

In all the aforementioned Scriptures the following similarities exist:
Our Beloved LORD GOD moved miraculously on behalf of the warrior, the king and the 9 lepers.

The warrior Gideon, King Asa, and the nine Lepers all had hardened or insensitive hearts, and therefore did not:
perceive (mentally grasp the miracles our GOD performed)
 With 300 men and no weapons (Jud 8:16-22) HE put to flight two armies too numerous to count (Jud 6:3-5)
 With an army a little over half a million, our Beloved LORD GOD defeated an army of one million men and three hundred chariots (2 Chr 14:8-15)
 Stepping out in faith, to follow the instructions by our Precious LORD JESUS, brought cleansing of leprosy (Luk 17:11-15)

understand (to have insight into; to know the meaning of; to totally get it)
 The warrior Gideon did not understand his calling. He had been called as a warrior (Jud 6:12-16) but thought himself a minister (Jud 8:22-27, 1 Sam 2:28); thus creating a snare for himself and his household, and an idol for the nation (Jud 8:27).
 King Asa did not understand that his victories came through reliance upon and trust in our Beloved LORD GOD (2 Chr chptrs 14-16).
 Nine of the ten lepers did not understand their cleansing came by faith in JESUS not in the pronunciation of cleansing by the priest (Luk 17:12-14, Mat 8:1-4, Lev 14:1-2).

remember (to keep in mind; to be careful not to forget; to maintain a memory of HIS moving on their behalf)
 The warrior Gideon did not remember that he spoke to The LORD GOD directly (Jud 6:36-40), he did not need an ephod to inquire of HIM (1 Sam 30:7).
 King Asa did not remember trusting in and relying upon The LORD only is what brought peace to his kingdom and deliverance from his enemies (2 Chr 14:2-7, 2 Chr 16:7-9)
 Nine of the ten leper did not remember it was from JESUS HIMSELF their cleansing had come (Luk 17:17-18)

How can you know for certain that the warrior Gideon, King Asa, and the nine Lepers had hardened hearts? The conditions of a hardened heart are describe by our Precious LORD JESUS CHRIST in Mark 8:17-21

And JESUS, aware of this, said to them
Why do you discuss the fact that you have no bread?
Do you not yet see or understand?
Do you have a hardened heart?
HAVING EYES, DO YOU NOT SEE? AND HAVING EARS, DO YOU NOT HEAR?
And do you not remember when I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces you picked up?
They said to Him, “Twelve.”
“When I broke the seven for the four thousand, how many large baskets full of broken pieces did you pick up?”
And they said to Him, “Seven.”
And He was saying to them, “Do you not yet understand?”

A hardened heart is a mind that is unable to see, understand/perceive, hear or even remember what The LORD has done; and as a result it is a mind like those of the Israelites in the opening Scripture (Heb 3:7-11); it always goes astray from GOD and HIS WORD. It is a heart that does not know HIM or HIS ways. It is a mind that relates more to the natural than the supernatural. For example, how many times have you heard a message from The WORD of GOD that moved your heart at the time of hearing it, but never got a hold of it to the point that you immediately began to apply it to your life? In fact you soon forgot what moved you so in the message?

Are there other examples in The BIBLE of people with hardened hearts? Yes here’s three more found in Ezekiel 33:30-32, Matthew 7:26-27, and Matthew 13:18-22.

Is there a cure for a harden heart? Yes, if you treasure GOD and HIS WORD in your heart (Psa 119:11) by pondering (Luk 2:19), reflecting on (Psa 63:6-8, Psa 103:2, 1 Cor 11:23-26) mediating on (Psa 77:12, Psa 119:48) and obeying (Psa 40:8, Jam 1:25).

An Unbelieving Heart

Negev_Desert_1Then I said to you, “do not be shocked, nor fear them”
The LORD your GOD WHO goes before you will HIMSELF fight on your behalf
Just as HE did for you in Egypt before your eyes
And in the wilderness where you saw how The LORD your GOD carried you, just as a man carries his son
In all the way which you have walked until you came to this place
But for all this, you did not trust The LORD your GOD.
Deuteronomy 1:29-32

Background
Moses spoke the aforementioned words to the children of the nation of Israel whom our Beloved LORD GOD had brought out of Egypt (Num 14:31). Almost forty years had passed (Deu 1:3) and the children of the unbelieving nation of Israel were once again standing at the border of the promise land (Deu 1:5). Moses knowing he would not enter the promise land with the children of Israel (Num 20:1-12, Deu 1:37, Deu 3:23-29), under our Beloved LORD GOD’s instruction, prepared them for entry into the promise land by reminding them of their history (Deu chptrs 1-3); renewed the call to obedience while emphasizing that their obedience was tied to their success (Deu 4:1-40); taught them again the Commandments and Law (Deu 4:41-49, Deu chptrs 5-30); encouraged them to trust in The LORD and take the promise land (Deu 31:4-29); appointed Joshua their leader (Deu 31:1-3); and blessed them (Deu 33:1-29).

What does all this have to do with a lethal condition of the heart? An unbelieving heart is one of the conditions that lead to spiritual death. A heart that does not believe in our Beloved LORD GOD (Num 14:11, Exd 32:1-6), nor trust HIS WORDS (Psa 106:24, Heb 9:7-19), is a sin filled heart that continually turns away from HIM (Isa 1:4, Isa 59:12-13, Jer 17:13, 2 Tim 4:3-4); a heart that denies HIM (Pro 30:9, Job 31:24-28, Eze 8:12, Tit 1:16); and a heart that will not be able to see evidence of HIS continual provision and protection (2 Chr 32:24-25, Psa 106:7, Jer 17:5-6). We see an unbelieving heart in full demonstration by the actions of Israel in Deu 1:30-32 and Psa 106:6-48. Despite all the miracles our Beloved LORD GOD performed on behalf of the unbelieving Israelites within Egypt and even in the Promised Land, they continued to go from bad to worse. They behaved wickedly (Psa 106:6), had no understanding of GOD’s wonders (Psa 106:7), did not remember HIS kindness (Psa 106:7), quickly forgot HIS works (Psa 106:13), did not wait for HIS counsel (Psa 106:13), and finally forgot GOD HIMSELF and all the wonders HE performed (Psa 106:21-22).

What does it mean to believe? To truly believe in our Beloved LORD GOD and to really trust in HIS WORDS is more than a mental belief. It is a trust in GOD that is so complete and a reliance upon HIS WORD so absolute, that one’s confidence does not waver regardless of circumstances. It is a belief or trust, which can only come through intimately knowing our Beloved LORD JESUS CHRIST. And over time and through every situation HE develops this level of belief and trust in those who love HIM (Heb 12:2).

Is there any hope for an unbelieving heart? Yes the answer is found in Matthew 7:7-11

Yet, with respect to the promise of GOD
He did not waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith
Giving glory to GOD, and being fully assured that what GOD had promised, HE was able also to perform
Therefore IT WAS ALSO CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS
Romans 4:20-22

Lethal Heart Conditions

dying-roseBecause lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold
Matthew 24:12

Lethal heart conditions is a series of messages that my Beloved LORD JESUS first begin to give me on February 28, 2018. HE spoke to me about the very harmful, and destructive spiritual conditions of the heart that leads to death.

Four things should be noted as you go through this series:
1) Our Beloved LORD GOD’s messages are not about the physical heart. The physical heart like the rest of our physical body, is not who we are; it is just the place where we temporarily reside (Job 4:19, Lam 4:2, 2 Cor 4:7). Our physical bodies are mortal (will eventually die), and as such can be killed (Mat 10:28, Luk 12:4-5).
2) Our Beloved LORD GOD’s messages are about our spiritual heart, also known as:
a. our soul (Psa 103:1-2, Psa 119:129)
b. our inner man (Rom 7:22, 2 Cor 4:16, Eph 3:16)
c. the unseen or hidden person within each of us (1 Pet 3:4)
Our spiritual heart, is the very core or essence of who we are (Psa 42:1-2, Psa 130:5-6). It is It is the place where our thoughts, our will, our emotions, our attitudes reside. It is within this place where harmful and destructive spiritual conditions left unchecked, leads to spiritual or the second death (Rev 20:14-15, Rev 21:8). The soul/inner man/hidden person is immortal (will never die). It is the part of us that will either have eternal life or eternal judgment and punishment (Dan 12:2, Mat 25:46, Jhn 5:29).
3) Our Beloved LORD GOD is calling each one of us to:
a. to examine ourselves (Lam 3:40)
b. to probe ourselves (Psa 139:23-24)
c. to consider ourselves (Psa 119:59-60)
d. to test ourselves (2 Cor 13:5)
To confirm that we have not fallen (1 Cor 10:12, Rev 2:5), or repent, return and be revived (Act 3:19, Psa 119:25).
4) Every single lethal heart condition of the inner man represents a stage in a disobedient heart. Disobedience or sin in one’s spiritual life is equivalent to the gradual build-up of plaque in one’s physical arteries; both of them left unchecked lead to death.

In conclusion, there are two questions that you should prayerfully consider:
1) How does one know if their heart is disobedient? The answer is found in the opening Scripture, Matthew 24:12. Are you still as devoted to studying HIS WORD, and being in HIS presence (Jer 2:2) as you were when you first came to HIM? Or do you now justify all the reasons why you can’t? Is pleasing yourself more important than pleasing HIM (Jhn 8:29, 2 Cor 5:9, Eph 5:10)? A disobedient heart is one that is growing or has become cold. It is a heart that loves our Beloved LORD JESUS less than at the beginning (John 14:15 and John 14:21).
2) How can one test the condition of their heart? Consider your answer to the following questions, does HIS WORD still move you (Neh 8:8-9, Psa 119:120, Isa 66:2)? Do you call JESUS your LORD, and yet you do not submit to HIS authority in your life (Luk 6:46, Eze 33:30-32)? Are you ashamed of your sin (Isa 3:9, Jer 8:12)? Do you remember the last time you heard the voice of GOD speak to you (Isa 30:21, 1 Sam 28:6, Pro 1:28-31)? Are you aware HE sees and knows everything you do (Job 34:21-23, Psa 90:8, Pro 15:3, Heb 4:13)? Do you care (Psa 119:136, Eze 9:4)?

GOD Makes a Home for the Lonely

I feel so left outGOD makes a home for the lonely;
HE leads out the prisoners into prosperity,
Only the rebellious dwell in a parched land.
Psalm 68:6

Every time I see a commercial or a Facebook post with people surrounded by loved ones, my heart grieves for those who are alone. Every time I see a commercial or a Facebook post with tables of delicious foods, my heart grieves for those who are hungry with little to no means to satisfy that hunger.

But every single time I take my grieving heart into the presence of my Beloved ABBA FATHER on behalf of those who have been or merely feel left out, HE reminds me of HIS goodness and HIS WORDS:

Father to the fatherless, defender of widows—
This is GOD, whose dwelling is holy.
GOD places the lonely in families;
HE sets the prisoners free and gives them joy.
But HE makes the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.
Psalm 68:5-6
New Living Translation

Our Beloved LORD GOD, is compassionate, merciful, abounding in lovingkindness (Exd 34:6). HE gives hope to those without hope (Jer 29:11), HE is near to the brokenhearted, and HE saves those who are downtrodden or crushed in spirit (Psa 34:18).

If you are among those who are hurting and feel alone, look to GOD in prayer:
♥  it is from HE that your help will come (Psa 121:2)
♥  give all you your burdens to HIM; HE will take care of you (Psa 55:22)
♥  give all your anxieties and worries to HIM; because HE cares for you (1 Pet  5:7)

HE understands what you are going through, our Beloved LORD JESUS CHRIST experienced this HIMSELF:

HE was despised and forsaken of men,
A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;
And like one from whom men hide their face
HE was despised, and we did not esteem HIM.
Isaiah 53:3

If you are among those who are called by HIS NAME, love others not just in your words but with your behavior (1 Jhn 3:17-18). Reach out to those who are forgotten, who feel left out. Share with others (1 Tim 6:18). And do not publically let everyone know what good you have done; shaming those who have received the benefit of your generosity. Instead privately take care of those who cannot take care of themselves, and our Beloved ABBA FATHER will see and reward you (Pro 19:17, Mat 6:1-4).

Turn to me and have mercy,
For I am alone and in deep distress.
My problems go from bad to worse.
Oh, save me from them all!
Feel my pain and see my trouble.
Forgive all my sins.
Psalm 25:16-18
New Living Translation

Loving Like JESUS

Loving like JESUSA new commandment I give to you
That you love one another
Even as I have loved you
That you also love one another
John 13:34

How do we love like JESUS? To love like JESUS is to love beyond the world’s standards. To love without getting anything in return. The world:

• Loves those who love them (Luk 6:32)

• Will do good to those who will do good to them (Luk 6:33)

• Will lend to those whom they expect to get something out of it, whether it is a return of what was given (Luk 6:34) or some other advantage (Mat 6:1-4)

When loving like JESUS, you:

• Walk in love with all (Eph 5:2)
Both with those who love you (Jhn 13:35, 1 Pet 1:22), but also with those who hate you (Luk 6:27)

• Pray for those who hate and mistreat you (Luk 23:34, Act 7:59-60)
Even after death, our Beloved LORD JESUS blood cried for forgiveness, not revenge (Heb 12:24↔Gen 4:8-10, Rev 6:9-10, Mat 26:28, 1 Jhn 1:7)

• Do good to all (Mat 5:45)
Those who do good to you (Heb 6:10, Luk 7:4, Act 10:1-2), but also those who cannot (Luk 14:12-14) or will not do good to you (Luk 6:27, Exd 23:4-5, Pro 25:21-22, Rom 12:20)

• Are gracious to all (Psa 37:21)
Freely and cheerful giving, without expecting anything in return (Deu 7:8-9, Pro 14:31, Pro 19:17, Pro 28:27, 1 Chr 29:14)

• Are kind to ungrateful and evil men (Luk 6:36)

• Are merciful, always having a capacity to forgive or show kindness (Mat 18:23-35, 1 Cor 13:5, 2 Cor 5:19, 1 Pet 4:8)

Why is it a new commandment to love others like HE loves us? Because it is more than loving others as much as you love yourself (Lev 19:18, Gal 5:14), it is loving others more than you love yourself. It is a sacrificial love (1 Jhn 3:16, Php 2:17, 1 Ths 2:8)

The one who does not love does not know GOD, for GOD is love.
1 John 4:8
