To The Praise of HIS Glory

To The Praise of HIS GloryTo the end
That we who were the first to hope in CHRIST
Would be
To the praise of HIS glory
Ephesians 1:12

I have been doing a personal study through The Book of Revelation. I wanted to understand through The WORD, the background of the saints in the Church of Ephesus (Rev 2:1), so I could better understand our Beloved LORD JESUS CHRIST’s message to them (Rev 2:2-7). After praying for understanding, my Beloved LORD JESUS led me first to do a background study in The BIBLE on the activities and events surrounding Ephesus. I was amazed at all that occurred there, but we won’t be discussing it in this study. HE then directed my study to Ephesians where I studied the saints in Ephesus, and HIS instruction to them and us today. From the very first chapter HE begin sharing awesome truths. In this study of Ephesians 1:12, we will look at why and how the following two purposes of GOD were accomplished:
• Those who were first to hope in CHRIST
• To the praise of HIS glory

Who are “those who were first to hope in CHRIST?” The Jewish nation. The Gospel was first preached to this nation by JESUS HIMSELF (Mrk 1:14-15, Luk 4:16-21, Luk 20:1) the apostles (Luk 9:1-6, Act 13:2-5, Act 14:8-15), and the brethren from the Church in Jerusalem (Act 8:1-4, Act 8:25-40, Act 11:19-24).

Why did GOD choose the Jewish nation to be the first to hope in CHRIST? For three reasons:
1) The nation of Israel was HIS firstborn (Exd 4:22). Israel was the first nation on earth that GOD chose to be HIS people (Exd 19:5-6, Deu 7:6, Psa 100:3), and as such, GOD called them HIS firstborn (Jer 31:9).
2) Fulfillment of prophesy. Sinful rulers, prophets and priests (Mic 3:1-12), destroyed and scattered GOD’s flock from the house of Israel (Jer 23:1-2, Eze 34:1-10). But through the prophets Jeremiah and Ezekiel, our Beloved LORD GOD prophesied “HE would gather the remnant of HIS scattered flock” (Jer 23:3-4, Eze 34:11-16). When Immanuel (Mat 1:23), The Great Shepherd (Heb 13:20, Jhn 10:11, 1 Pet 2:24-25), came into the world HE fulfilled these prophecies by gathering the remnant of the lost from the house of Israel (Mat 10:5-6, Mat 15:24, Act 3:26).
3) Fulfillment of prophesy. Our Beloved LORD GOD through HIS prophets Isaiah and Micah prophesied that “The WORD of The LORD would go forth from Jerusalem” (Isa 2:3, Mic 4:2, Luk 24:47).

Is that why HE says “to the Jew first?” Yes (Rom 1:16). The Good Shepherd came first to save the lost from the House of Israel (Rom 9:27). We must also realize that salvation comes from the Jews through our Beloved Savior JESUS CHRIST (Jhn 4:22, Rom 9:4-5). And the Jewish nation was the first nation entrusted with The WORD of GOD (Rom 3:1-2), starting with Moses (Act 7:38, Luk 24:44-45).

Has all the remnant from the Jewish nation been gathered? No, the gathering of the remnant began among those who turned to The LORD JESUS CHRIST and away from their sin during the first coming of JESUS; but it will continue until HIS return, or second coming (Rom 11:25-28).

What does it mean that the Jewish nation “would be to the praise of HIS glory?” Through Jewish prophets, JESUS CHRIST and Jewish believers in JESUS, men from every nation will praise GOD for the display of HIS power, grace, mercy, lovingkindness, forgiveness and fulfillment of HIS WORD. Men from every nation throughout the New Testament and today, witness:
• fulfillment of ancient prophecies through the mouth of HIS Jewish prophets (King David-Psa 16:8-11↔Act 2:22-32; Isaiah-Isa 9:6-7↔Mat 1:21-23, Isa 53:1-12↔; Daniel- Dan 9:25-26↔Luk 2:11, Jhn 4:25-26; Joel-Joe 2:28-32↔Act 2:14-21; Luk 24:44)
• mighty acts performed through our Precious JESUS (Act 2:22↔Luk 7:21-22) and through HIS apostles (Act 12:1-18, Act 16:16-34)
• powerful miracles performed at the hands of JESUS (Mat 14:15-21, Mat 15:32-38, Jhn 2:1-11) and HIS apostles (Act 3:1-10, Act 8:4-8, Act 19:11-12)
• undeniable transformations of the apostles (Act 4:13, Act 9:19-22)
• irrefutable events occurring at the point of JESUS death (Mat 27:45-54), at HIS resurrection (Mat 28:1-10), and before HIS return to ABBA FATHER (1 Cor 15:3-8)

Do men still today give GOD praise because of the lives of HIS people? Yes, because JESUS is the same today, as HE was yesterday and forever (Heb 13:8), and when we truly follow HIM, men of all nations glorify ABBA FATHER (Mat 5:16). It is also important to mention, that when people profess to know The LORD JESUS CHRIST, yet do not walk faithfully with HIM, it causes HIS NAME to be blasphemed (Rom 2:17-24).

Departing from there, JESUS went along by the Sea of Galilee
And having gone up on the mountain, HE was sitting there
And large crowds came to HIM
Bringing with them those who were lame, crippled, blind, mute, and many others
And they laid them down at HIS feet
And HE healed them
So the crowd marveled as they saw the mute speaking, the crippled restored
And the lame walking, and the blind seeing
And they glorified the GOD of Israel
Matthew 15:29-31

Tender, Unconditional, Incorruptible, Steadfast

Open heart, Light, LoveI love The LORD
Because HE hears my voice and my supplications
Because HE has inclined HIS ear to me
Therefore I shall call upon HIM as long as I live
Psalm 116:1-2

The opening Scriptures (Psa 116:1-2) are the words of my heart for my Beloved LORD GOD. I frequently think about HIM. I have a “tender affection” for my Beloved because of HIS love for me, HIS continual care of me, and our precious time spent together. I feel warm inside when I think about HIM. I think about HIS goodness, HIS gentleness, HIS powerful WORD, and the many conversations we have held together. HE is my caring family and closest friend. I am emotionally attached to my Beloved LORD GOD, I desire to continuously be in HIS presence, hearing HIS voice. In Psalm 63:1-8, King David perfectly expressed this very love.

Is this type of love “Agapee”? No, this love is identified by two names. In the Old Testament it is “ἀhab (ἀheb)” (OT:157), and in the New Testament it is “phileo” (NT:5368). “Ἀhab” and “phileo” both represent a love known for having a strong emotional attachment to, a tender affection for, and a desire to be in the presence of. It’s a love that cherishes (Psa 27:4-6, Psa 34:8, Psa 40:5, Psa 143:5-6).

“Ἀhab” in the Old Testament, can be a love that represents many different types of relationships, but for purposes of this study we will only look at the relationships that are comparable to the same love as “phileo” in the New Testament. Both “ἀhab” and “phileo” represents love between:
• parents and their children, such as ABBA FATHER has for JESUS (Jhn 5:20) and HIS other children who love JESUS (Jhn 16:27, Rev 3:19); Abraham had for Isaac (Gen 22:2); Israel had for Joseph (Gen 37:3); or Ruth had for Naomi (Rut 4:15)
• dear friends (Pro 17:17,) such as Jonathan and David (1 Sam 18:1); JESUS and HIS obedient followers (Pro 18:24, Jhn 15:14-15, Jam 2:23)
• servant and their Master (Exd 21:5-6, Deu 15:16-17, Jhn 21:15-17)
“Phileo” as reflected in various passages in the New Testament, can be a harmful love. Harmful when:
• love for family is deeper than love for JESUS CHRIST (Mat 10:37)
• the recognition as righteous, means more than being righteous (Mat 6:5, Mat 23:6-7, Luk 20:46, Mat 23:27-28)
• men love their own life/way of life so much they are not willing to give it up or change it (Mrk 8:34-37, Luk 9:24-25, Luk 17:31-33, Jhn 12:25).
When “phileo” is healthy, not only is it beneficial but also this love for our Precious JESUS CHRIST is an absolutely necessary condition of salvation! You might be wondering why this type of love for CHRIST is crucial, it’s because you will never be able to have a personal relationship with HIM if your heart is not emotionally attached to HIM. Without “phileo” your desire for HIM, will never be stronger than the desires of your flesh (Ecc 11:9, Mrk 4:19, Gal 5:24, Tit 2:12) or your attractions to the world (1 Jhn 2:15-17). This type of love for JESUS CHRIST and for The WORD of GOD (because JESUS CHRIST is The WORD – Jhn 1:1, Jhn 1:14, Rev 19:13) is so crucial, that our Beloved LORD GOD issued a very solemn warning through HIS servant Paul in 1 Corinthians 16:21-22:

The greeting is in my own hand — Paul.
If anyone does not love The LORD, he is to be accursed.
Maranatha.

In examining how serious the warning in 1 Corinthians 16:22 is:
• In 1 Corinthians 16:21, Paul’s words indicate he has stopped dictating and began writing the final greeting himself.
• In 1 Corinthians 16:22, Paul personally tells us “If anyone does not “phileo” The LORD, he is to be “anathema.”
Paul is telling us, to not have a sincere love for our Beloved LORD JESUS CHRIST causes one to be subject to “anathema.” Anathema is a word with Aramaic origin (NT:331), which means to be accursed (Eph 2:1-3, Col 1:21, 2 Pet 2:14), set apart for destruction (Pro 16:4, 2 Ths 1:8-9), or set apart from GOD (Mat 7:23, Luk 13:27). This might seem harsh, until you understand that one who does not love JESUS CHRIST is one who refuses to be guided by The WORD of GOD, and defies HIS authority (Jhn 14:15, Jhn 14:21, 2 Pet 2:10, Jud 1:8). The one who does not have a deep affection for our Beloved LORD, has no attachment to HIM, no trust in HIM, and no belief in HIS WORDS. And will suffer the same fate of all unbelievers and disobedient (Jhn 3:36, Jhn 16:8-9, 2 Ths 1:8-9).
• Maranatha is also a word with Aramaic origin (NT:3134) which means O LORD come, our LORD come, our LORD is coming (Php 4:5, Heb 10:37, Jam 5:8, Rev 22:20). It is an exclamation of the approaching divine judgment, for those who do not sincerely love HIM, though they make an outward profession of love. True faith in CHRIST comes with sincere love for HIM, which is reflected in obedience to HIM (Jhn 10:2-5, Jhn 10:25-28). Those who do not sincerely love HIM are warned about their exposure to GOD’s wrath (Rom 5:9, 1 Ths 1:10).

How can one know they have “Phileo” love for JESUS CHRIST? By how you live your life when you think no one is watching (Eze 9:9-10, Pro 28:13, Luk 8:17, 1 Tim 5:24-25), or if you truly believe our Beloved LORD GOD sees everything (Jer 23:24, Psa 69:5, Psa 139:12, Dan 2:22, Heb 4:13). This type of love only comes with an intimate relationship with our GOD and SAVIOR. You cannot have a close personal relationship with our Beloved and not be aware of HIS presence.
Our Beloved LORD GOD examines our heart’s attitude toward HIM (Jer 12:3), and HE calls us to examine ourselves (Lam 3:40, Psa 119:59, 2 Cor 13:5). During your prayerful examination, you might ask yourself “as a minister are my teachings in the pulpit, consistent with how I constantly live outside the pulpit (Gal 1:10, 1 Ths 2:4)?” Or “as a Christian is my public behavior consistent with my constant private behavior (Eph 6:5-6, Col 3:22-25)? Are my inner thoughts, words and behavior pleasing to GOD (Psa 19:14, Psa 104:34, Psa 119:97-103, Jhn 8:29, Jam 1:26)?”

What is “Agapee”? “Agapee” is a love that is more than feelings, it is an act of one’s will (Mat 5:43-48, Mrk 12:30-31, Eph 2:4, Eph 5:25, Col 3:19). It is a profound and constant love that is free from conditions, desires, or expectations (Job 2:9-10, Hab 3:17-19, Luk 6:35-36). It is a love that causes us to cling to our GOD (Deu 10:20, Deu 11:22, Rom 12:9↔Mat 19:16-17), and forgive others (1 Cor 13:5, 1 Pet 4:8). It is incorruptible (Eph 6:24), and steadfast (Psa 57:7-11, 1 Cor 15:58↔Heb 6:10). It is an unselfish love (Rom 5:8, Jhn 15:13, Rom 15:2). “Agapee” is a love that expresses itself through actions. GOD gave HIS SON JESUS for us (Jhn 3:16). JESUS willingly died that we might live (Jhn 10:17-18). We express “agapee” to our Beloved through our implicit obedience to HIS WORD (Jhn 14:15, Jhn 14:21, Jhn 14:23, 2 Jhn 1:6). And since we have been commanded to walk in this profound and constant love, which is free from conditions, desires, or expectations, we must walk in this love for our:
• Beloved LORD GOD at all times, even in the darkest of times (Psa 62:8, Mat 22:37-38, Heb 12:5-13, Jam 1:2-4)
• Precious LORD JESUS at all times (Jhn 8:42, 1 Jhn 5:1, Rev 12:11↔Dan 11:32-35)
• Christian brethren (Jhn 13:34-35, 1 Pet 1:22, 1 Jhn 4:7-12)
• Neighbors or fellow human beings (Mat 22:39-40, Mat 7:12, Luk 10:29-37, Rom 13:8-10)
• Enemies (Luk 6:27-28, Luk 23:34, Act 7:54-60, Rom 12:19-21)
One final note, in this section describing the love that is unconditional, incorruptible and steadfast, we have used both the Greek verb “agapaoo” (NT:25) and corresponding Greek noun “agapee” (NT:26) interchangeably.

Little children
Let us not love with word or with tongue
But in deed and truth

Only One Resolution

Resolution 3I know, LORD, that our lives are not our own.
We are not able to plan our own course.
Jeremiah 10:23 (New Living Translation)

With the beginning of a New Year, a new decade; many have been making “New Year’s resolutions” in which they resolve to change an undesired trait or behavior, to accomplish a personal goal or otherwise improve their life. Yet history has shown that approximately 80% of those resolutions will fail by the second week of February.

You might be wondering why the failure rate is so high, there are at least three reasons (the first two are also the reason many falter in their spiritual walk):
1) Lack of endurance. The person(s) are not willing to continue, carry on, or persevere when hardships, difficulties, or suffering arise (Mat 13:20-21). Like many before them, they will choose the easier path (Mat 7:13-14), since they did not fully consider the cost of keeping the resolution (Luk 14:25-33).
2) Distraction. When other things arise, many will lose focus on what’s important (Col 3:1-4, Heb 12:1-3), being distracted by other things (Mat 13:22, 1 Jhn 1:15-17, 2 Tim 4:10).
3) Encountering unforeseen events. Often when plans are being made, the person(s) do not consult our Beloved LORD GOD (Psa 37:5, Pro 3:6, Pro 16:3). Instead they make plans based on their own knowledge (Pro 3:5, Pro 19:21), not aware of all the circumstances (Jos 9:1-27), or what the future holds (Luk 12:16-20, Jam 4:13-16).

Is it wrong to make New Year Resolutions? It is wrong to make any statement you:
• do not mean (Psa 12:2, Rom 16:18, Jud 1:16, Eph 4:25, Col 2:4, Col 3:9, 2 Pet 1:16, 2 Pet 2:3)
• do not intend to keep (Exd 8:8-15, Exd 8:28-32, Exd 9:22-35, Exd 10:14-20, Psa 78:36, Mat 21:28-32)
• swear to, whether it is a promise; an oath; or declaration (Ecc 5:4-6, Mat 5:33-37, Jam 5:12)

Over the last few months our Beloved LORD GOD has been revealing the weight HE places on words. Not just HIS (Psa 147:15, Isa 55:10-11, Jer 1:12) but ours (Mat 12:36-37, Eph 4:29, Col 4:6). And not just what we say, but how we say it (2 Tim 2:25, Jam 1:19-20, 1 Pet 3:15). Knowing this, should we not be mindful of what we say, and what we say we will do?

How can you make a resolution that will happen? By consulting with our Beloved LORD GOD through prayer (Pro 3:6, Pro 20:18↔1 Chr 14:13-17, Php 4:13, Jam 1:5-8), and then entrusting HIM to bring it to pass in HIS timing (Pro 16:3).

If there was only one resolution that one should make, what would it be? To purpose in your heart to remain true or faithful to our Beloved LORD JESUS CHRIST (Act 11:23, Dan 3:16-18, Act 20:22-24), seeking HIS strength through prayer (Neh 6:9, Psa 119:28, Act 4:27-31) and The WORD (Isa 41:10-13, Rom 8:31, Php 4:13).

But let your statement be, ‘Yes, yes’ or ‘No, no’
Anything beyond these is of evil
Matthew 5:37

The AMEN

The BIBLE, The WORD of GODTo the angel of the church in Laodicea write:
The Amen
The Faithful and True Witness
The Beginning of the creation of GOD
Says this:
Revelation 3:14

As we continue to gain understanding of The Names of our Beloved LORD & SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST, we will next look at one of the names JESUS self-identified HIMSELF as in the Book of Revelation, “The Amen.”

The word “Amen” is used 159 times throughout The BIBLE. It has the same meaning in Hebrew “Aameen” (OT:543), Greek “Ameén” (NT:281), and English “Amen.” Its means truth; to be reliable; to be established. Depending on who is using it, and where it is located during oral or written discourse, it is an expression of agreement or approval. Or it is an acknowledgement of the truthfulness and accuracy of a statement.

If “Amen” is located at the end of a sentence, it is used by men, and they are expressing agreement or approval. For instance:
• When praying, “Amen” at the conclusion of the prayer means “May it be fulfilled” (Psa 89:46-52, Psa 106:47-48, *Matthew 6:5-13).
• When agreeing with the WORDS of The LORD, “Amen” at the end of the sentence means “So be it” (Jer 11:1-5).
• When worshipping our Beloved LORD GOD, “Amen” at the end of the sentence means “So it is” (1 Chr 16:23-36, Neh 8:5-6, Psa 72:18-19).
• When giving valediction to another (Rom 15:33, 1 Cor 16:23-24, Gal 6:18), or when men are in agreement with the pronouncements of The LORD (Num 5:11-22, Deu 27:9-26), “Amen” at the end of the sentence means “So let it be.”

If “Amen” is located at the beginning of a sentence, it is used by our Beloved LORD GOD, and HE is stating “It shall be so” (1 Kin 1:32-37↔1 Chr 22:9-10). JESUS CHRIST used “Truly” or “Verily” which is another word for “Amen” at the beginning of HIS sentence 77 different times in the New Testament. When HE stated “Truly” or “Verily” at the beginning of HIS sentence, HE declared every word that came after is truth, and it would certainly happen.

In conclusion, when we know that “Amen” means truth, and our Precious LORD JESUS CHRIST is The TRUTH (Jhn 14:6), and only speaks truth (1 Pet 2:22, Jhn 8:26), we understand that HE is The AMEN, WHO says to us “it is and shall be so.” Confirmed by the fact that HIS WORDS have not and will not fail (Isa 55:10-11, Isa 46:10, Psa 33:11, Isa 14:24, Isa 25:1, Isa 40:8).

For the SON of GOD, CHRIST JESUS
WHO was preached among you by us — by me and Silvanus and Timothy —
Was not yes and no, but is yes in HIM
For as many as are the promises of GOD
In HIM they are yes
Therefore also through HIM is our AMEN
To the glory of GOD through us
2 Corinthians 1:19-20

*The latter half of Matthew 6:13 which includes “Amen” is found in every translation except, in the New Living Translation and New International Version.

IMMANUEL

Names of my JESUSBEHOLD, THE VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD
AND SHALL BEAR A SON
AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL
Which translated means
“GOD WITH US”
Matthew 1:23

Several days ago I woke up singing a song that my Beloved LORD and SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST placed in my soul. And ever since, the song randomly comes to my heart and I begin to sing:

*Emmanuel, Emmanuel
HIS Name is called Emmanuel
GOD with us, revealed in us
HIS Name is called Emmanuel

Emmanuel, Emmanuel
HIS Name is called Emmanuel
We love HIM so, we love HIM so
HIS Name is called Emmanuel

Throughout many years, I have both read and taught Matthew 1:23. I have known from the previous passages (Mat 1:18-22) that my Beloved ABBA FATHER was speaking to us about HIS only begotten SON, JESUS CHRIST. And when the song begin playing over and over in my soul, it caused me to stop and spend time reflecting on Matthew 1:23. I asked my Beloved LORD GOD, “What is it you want me to understand about this Scripture?”

HE pointed out every name and every title our Beloved JESUS CHRIST was given, holds the same weight as every WORD HE speaks. HE further explained that HIS people must understand that as IMMANUEL, HE is GOD WHO is:
With us. So we need not fear (Num 14:1-9, 2 Chr 20:1-30, 2 Chr 32:1-22). Because HE is with us, HE is our Stronghold (Psa 9:9-10, Psa 46:8-11, Psa 59:16-17), our Hiding place or place of survival (Psa 32:7, Psa 31:20, Psa 119:114), and our Refuge or impregnable Rock (Isa 33:16, Isa 25:4, Mat 7:24-25) that cannot be taken by assault, and cannot be conquered.
Among us. HE dwells among HIS people whether in SPIRIT (Exd 25:8, Exd 29:45-46, 1 Kin 6:11-13, Jhn 14:23, 2 Cor 6:16, Rev 21:3) or in flesh (Jhn 1:14, Act 1:21-22, Rom 1:2-4, 1 Jhn 1:1-3, 2 Jhn 1:7).
In the midst of us. HE stands in the very center of HIS people (Mat 18:20, Hag 2:5↔Exd 19:4-6, Exd 29:45-46). HIS tent of meeting was placed in the center of the Israelites camp, as a visual of where HE resides with HIS people (Num 1:47-54, Num 2:1-34). Our Beloved LORD GOD resides within the souls of HIS faithful, within their innermost beings (Rom 8:9-11, Jhn 7:38-39, 1Cor 3:16, 1 Cor 6:19, Eph 3:17-20, 1 Jhn 4:13).
Beside us. HE is omnipresent (present everywhere at the same time-Psa 139:7-10), so HE doesn’t just dwell within those who practice righteousness, HE stands beside them, as they pray to HIM (Exd 34:5, Exd 33:7-11↔Exd 19:9); when HE speaks to them (Num 12:4-9, 1 Sam 3:4–15); as HE strengthens them (2 Tim 4:16-18, Php 4:13, 2 Cor 12:8-10, Eph 3:16).
Always with us. HE will never abandon nor forsake those who love HIM (1 Sam 12:22, Psa 37:25-28, Psa 94:14); HE is our very present help or is abundantly available to help in times of trouble (Psa 46:1, Psa 37:39-40, Psa 54:5); HE will always be with us (Mat 28:20, Act 18:9-11).

We cannot leave this BIBLE study without also letting you know that GOD will not dwell among people, whose lifestyle is one of willful sin/iniquity, a lifestyle which continually ignores GOD’S WORD (Isa 59:2). GOD is with those who are with HIM (2 Chr 15:2). If you purposely ignore HIS WORD by following your own desires (Eze 33:30-32), thinking your behavior is hidden, you will personally discover that GOD truly sees and knows everything (Heb 4:13, Psa 33:13-15, Eze 8:7-12). Your sin will become known (Num 32:23, Luk 8:17, 1 Tim 5:24-25) as Achan’s sin was made known concerning the items under ban in Jericho (Joshua chapters 6 and 7). You must choose who you will follow, will you follow The Good Shepherd by listening to HIS Voice and obeying HIS WORD (Jhn 10:3-4, Jhn 10:27, Psa 23:1)? Or will you choose the way that seems right to you (Pro 14:12) and learn that Death is your Shepherd (Psa 49:14)?

Surely the righteous will give thanks to YOUR NAME
The upright will dwell in YOUR Presence
Psalm 140:13

*Emmanuel is the Hebrew word for the Greek word Immanuel.

The LORD’s Work

Work of The LORDTherefore
My beloved brethren
Be steadfast, immovable
Always abounding in the work of The LORD
Knowing that your toil is not in vain in The LORD
1 Corinthians 15:58

Many of the BIBLE studies I share have come from one-on-ONE studies with our Beloved LORD GOD. It is HE that taught me to examine The Scriptures (1 Ths 5:21). I absolutely love studying my ABBA FATHER’s WORD with HIM! HE’s taught me not to skim over or speed-read the Scriptures, but to read each one carefully, paying particular attention to things HE points out to me. I date, highlight, and notate in my BIBLE what HE has pointed out during that time of study. And then I reflect or meditate on what I have learned, and ask HIM to help me carefully walk in what HE has taught me. It’s during this process, HE writes HIS WORD upon my heart.

Why must one read each Scripture carefully? Because of the absolute importance of each word. We must never forget we are looking upon the very WORDS of Almighty GOD (2 Tim 3:16, 2 Pet 1:20). We must grasp that HE is sharing HIMSELF (Jhn 1:1, Jhn 1:14, 1 Jhn 1:1-3). We must fully understand that by HIS WORD all of creation was spoken into existence (Psa 33:6, Heb 11:3). We should know it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for the smallest Hebrew letter to fail (Isa 55:11, Luk 16:17). And we must carefully consider the weight our Beloved LORD GOD places on both HIS WORDS (Deu 8:3, Mat 4:4) and ours (1 Sam 2:3, Mat 12:36-37, Mat 15:15-19, Eph 4:29, Jam 3:2).

In the opening paragraph I described the process of examining the Scriptures. And we are going to do just that in this study. We will be examining 1 Corinthians 15:58. I would like to first share with you that the foundation Scripture (which is always located just below the graphic) is laid out how The Holy SPIRIT of my Beloved LORD GOD points it out to me. The Scripture centered on a line-by-line basis in The BIBLE study is highlighted with different colors for each line in my BIBLE. 1 Corinthians 15:58 was broken down by The Holy SPIRIT in 5 parts, drawing particular attention to each of the following parts:

1) Therefore
2) My beloved brethren
3) Be steadfast, immovable
4) Always abounding in the work of The LORD
5) Knowing that your toil is not in vain in The LORD

Therefore is used as a conjunctive adverb, the conjunctive part refers to something previously stated, and the adverb provides a greater description. Instead of using “therefore” one could say; that because something happened; as a result of this or that; for this or that reason. By starting at verse one of 1 Corinthians chapter 15, our Beloved LORD GOD through the apostle Paul lays out the doctrine of resurrection and a solid hope for believing it. With this very first word “therefore” In 1 Corinthians 15:58 Paul then provides the incentive for, and the way we should carry out our service for The LORD.

My beloved brethren, this word of encouragement is to incentivize those who hear it. It is not for everyone. It is only for those who do the will of our Beloved LORD GOD from the heart (Mrk 3:35, Eph 6:6, 1 Pet 4:2, 1 Jhn 2:17). For those who will take part in the first resurrection (Rev 20:5-6), also known as the resurrection of the righteous (Luk 14:14, Act 24:15), or the resurrection of life (Jhn 5:29, Dan 12:2).

Be steadfast, immovable. Be steadfast in heart, and immovable in faith. One who is steadfast in heart is one whose heart is firm, fixed, settled or established. Circumstances or indefinite time periods do not cause them to lose heart (Luk 18:1-8, 2 Cor 4:1-18), or give up from discouragement (Isa 40:30-31, Gal 6:9, 2 Ths 3:13, Heb 12:3).
One who is immovable in faith is one who truly knows GOD (Jhn 10:14, Jhn 14:23, 1 Jhn 2:3-6, 1 Jhn 4:6-8). Their faith in HIM cannot be shaken, it is not even capable of movement. Because they know HE cannot lie (Num 23:19, Tit 1:2, Heb 6:18), HE is faithful (Deu 7:9, 1 Cor 1:9, 2 Tim 2:13) and all HIS WORDS are faithful (Psa 119:86, Psa 119:89-90, Psa 119:138) and will not fail (Isa 55:10-11, Luk 16:17). Their faith in HIM is not just for others, but also for themselves (Psa 9:18, Pro 13:12, Jam 1:2-4).

Always abounding in the work of The LORD. “Always abounding” means to not just be engaged, but to be highly productive; to excel in; to be diligent; to always have a willing heart (2 Chr 31:21, Col 3:23-24).
The work of The LORD is to always be engaged in doing the will of our Beloved LORD GOD (Jhn 4:34), in every single thing we do (Col 3:17, Jam 2:26). Which means our daily walk through the power of HIS Holy SPIRIT is one that brings glory (Psa 115:1, 1 Pet 4:11) and thanksgiving to our Precious LORD JESUS CHRIST (Act 3:8-9, 2 Cor 1:11, 2 Cor 9:10-15), advancement of HIS Kingdom (Act 20:24-27, Rom 10:14-15, 1 Cor 3:6-9, 2 Tim 4:1-5), service to both the brethren (Eph 6:18, Col 1:25, Heb 13:17, 3 Jhn 1:5-8) and all mankind (Php 2:14-15, 1 Tim 2:1-4, Heb 13:1-3, Heb 13:16).

Knowing that your toil is not in vain in The LORD. Knowing is to have a deep conviction through experiencing the truth and faithfulness of GOD (Job 42:5, 2 Pet 1:16-19).
It is only then that you will be fully convinced (2 Tim 1:12), that your toil (labor; deed; actions) is not in vain (fruitless; unprofitable; without effect; futile) ― Php 2:16, Isa 49:4, 1 Ths 3:5
“In The LORD” is a key phrase in this sentence. If JESUS CHRIST is not your LORD & SAVIOR, and you do not have HIS Holy SPIRIT dwelling in your heart; than all you do profits you nothing (1 Cor 13:1-3, 1 Jhn 4:16), and everything seems vain to you, as demonstrated by the disobedient King Solomon (Ecc 1:1-2, Ecc 12:8).

Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of The LORD
The farmer waits for the precious produce of the soil
Being patient about it, until it gets the early and late rains
You too be patient
Strengthen your hearts, for the coming of The LORD is near
James 5:7-8

Buy Truth and Do Not Sell It

Hands raised in WorshipBuy truth, and do not sell it,
Get wisdom and instruction and understanding.
Proverbs 23:23

In the opening passage (Pro 23:23) we will carefully consider our Beloved LORD GOD’s instructions to:
    1) Buy truth
    2) Do not sell truth
    3) Get wisdom and instruction and understanding

In examining what it means to “buy truth” we must first get an understanding of what truth is. The English word “truth” was transliterated from the Hebrew word “’emeth“ (OT:571), and as a noun it means a fact that is unchanging, faithful, reliable, established, and verifiable. It is also used of testimony, divine instruction, and true doctrine (Psa 19:7-9, Psa 119:88, Exd 24:12, Rom 15:4, Mat 28:19-20, Jhn 7:16-18). Truth:
 is The WORD of GOD (Psa 119:142, Psa 119:151, Jhn 17:17)
 is Eternal (Psa 119:89-91, Psa 119:152, Psa 119:160, Isa 30:8, Isa 59:21)
 is Pure (Psa 12:6-7, Psa 19:8-9, Psa 119:140, Pro 30:5)
 will not fail (Isa 55:11, Isa 46:10, Zec 1:5-6, Luk 16:17, 1 Pet 1:23-25)

How do you buy truth? Before we answer that question, let us stop and remind you that The WORD of GOD is spiritual, and our study of HIS WORD concerns spiritual matters. HIS Truth is spiritual, and it cannot be acquired through physical means, as demonstrated in three separate examples:
    1) A fool denies the existence of GOD (Psa 14:1) or believes in GOD but does not believe HE sees and knows (Psa 10:11, Psa 94:7, Isa 29:15, Eze 8:7-12), and then tries to acquire spiritual wisdom (the knowledge of Truth – Pro 17:16), which comes from the very GOD he denies (Job 38:36, Pro 2:6, Jam 1:5).
    2) A magician in Samaria who tried to use physical money to acquire a spiritual gift (Act 8:4-24)
    3) False prophets, depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, think godliness is great gain for them (1 Tim 6:5), not understanding that godliness is not for physical profit but spiritual profit (1 Tim 6:6-10).

To “buy Truth” is to receive or accept Truth HIMSELF by faith (Jhn 14:6, Jhn 3:16, Rom 10:9-10), to be spiritually sealed by The SPIRIT of Truth (Jhn 14:16-17, Jhn 16:13-15, Eph 1:13), which is from The GOD of Truth (Psa 31:5, Isa 65:16). The purchasing or receiving of spiritual truth comes only to one who is willing to give up all to know Truth (Mat 13:45-46, Mrk 10:17-22, Luk 14:25-33, Php 3:7-14).

Why would one sell truth, when they gave up everything to acquire it? For at least four reasons; doubt, fear, discouragement and desire.
Doubt is to be uncertain, to stop trusting or believing. As an example, our Beloved GOD had given John the Baptist information about our Precious LORD & SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST. HE identified WHO JESUS was and the purpose HE served (Jhn 1:26-36). John stood firm in that knowledge (Jhn 3:26-30), until he was jailed (Mat 11:2-6). And then he begin to doubt, to the point of causing him to begin to distrust what he once knew, and WHOM he believed and trusted in. How do we know this, by the message JESUS sent back through John’s disciples. “And blessed is he, who does not take offense at ME” (Mat 11:6). The English word “offense” in Matthew 11:6, is transliterated from the Greek word “skandalizoo” (NT:4624) and according to Thayer’s Greek Lexicon (Abridged) it means to cause a person to begin to distrust and desert the one whom he ought to trust and obey.
Fear is to be afraid of what might happen, causing many to abandon our Beloved LORD JESUS CHRIST and HIS WORD. It can be fear of loss (Luk 17:31-33, Jhn 9:18-23, Jhn 12:42-43), fear of suffering (Job 3:25, Mat 13:20-21, Mat 24:9-10, Heb 10:32-39), or fear of death (Mat 10:28, Rev 2:8-11).
Discouragement is to lose confidence or hope; to be sad, depressed, or low in spirit; to lose heart (Psa 13:1-4, Psa 119:81-88). When one does not truly know or trust our Beloved LORD GOD, that HE is compassionate and merciful (Exd 34:6, Psa 111:4, Psa 116:5), or they do not know HE forewarned us that following HIM would not be easy (Mat 10:16-39, Act 14:21-22, 2 Tim 3:12), they become discouraged (Ecc 7:10, Exd 16:2-3, Deu 8:3).
Desire (lust) is to have a strong wish or craving for immediate temporal (physical) gratification. There are many who long for the temporal things offered in the physical world (Mat 13:22, 1 Tim 6:17-19, 1 Jhn 2:15-17). They are not willing like Moses to trade the short-term physical for the long-term eternal (Heb 11:24-26), instead like Esau they are willing to lose the greater reward to satisfy the flesh immediately (Gen 25:29-34). Short-term focus will always eventually lead to mourning loss of long-term reward (Gen 2:30-38, Heb 12:16-17, Luk 13:23-28).

Each one of us who have received the Truth in our innermost beings (Psa 51:6), must not sell it at any cost. We must choose to suffer the loss of all temporal (physical) interests, rather than abandon, deny or neglect the truth within us. We must guard truth by carefully considering our ways (Pro 14:16, Pro 19:16), and not neglecting the study of it (1 Chr 16:11, Pro 8:34, Luk 11:3), the testimony of it (Deu 32:1-4, Psa 26:7, Psa 92:2-4, Isa 63:7), nor revolt or turn from it (2 Tim 4:3-4, Heb 6:4-6). We must cling to our GOD (Deu 10:20, Deu 11:22) and hold fast HIS WORD within our hearts (Psa 119:31-32, Pro 4:4). We must not grow weary in doing good (Gal 6:9), or doing the things which are pleasing to our GOD (Rom 12:2, Eph 5:10, 1 Pet 1:14-16).

Why has GOD also instructed us to get wisdom, instruction and understanding? Because receiving Truth is the beginning of your spiritual life. But you must also grow to maturity, and maturity only comes through practice (Heb 5:14). And practice means continually living a life obedient to The WORD of GOD (1 Jhn 3:7-8). Living an obedient life in addition to getting wisdom, instruction and understanding can only happen through the presence and power of The Holy SPIRIT. It is The SPIRIT of GOD which gives:
Wisdom, the knowledge and the ability to make the right choices at the opportune time (Job 38:36, Psa 51:6)
Instruction, the discipline that teaches how to live correctly in the fear of The LORD (Psa 32:8, Isa 28:26)
Understanding, the ability to clearly grasp the meaning of what HIS WORD is telling you (Job 32:8, Pro 2:6)

Hear, O sons, the instruction of a FATHER,
And give attention that you may gain understanding,
For I give you sound teaching;
Do not abandon my instruction.
When I was a son to my father,
Tender and the only son in the sight of my mother,
Then HE taught me and said to me,
“Let your heart hold fast my words;
Keep my commandments and live;
Acquire wisdom! Acquire understanding!
Do not forget nor turn away from the words of my mouth.
“Do not forsake her, and she will guard you;
Love her, and she will watch over you.
“The beginning of wisdom is: Acquire wisdom;
And with all your acquiring, get understanding.
Proverbs 4:1-7

Assurance & Conviction

Assurance and Conviction backgroundNow faith is the assurance of things hoped for
The conviction of things not seen
Hebrews 11:1

What exactly does Hebrews 11:1 mean? Hebrews 11:1 is the definition of faith. But to fully understand the definition, we must examine the three components of the definition ― faith, assurance of things hoped for, and conviction of things not seen.

What is Faith? The definition of faith is reflected in Jeremiah 17:7:

Blessed is the man who trusts in The LORD
And whose trust is The LORD
(NASB translation)

But blessed are those who trust in The LORD
And have made The LORD their hope and confidence
(NLT translation)

Faith is more than a mental belief in The LORD GOD. It is trust in HIM that is so complete and reliance upon HIS WORD so absolute, that confidence does not waver with circumstances. The person who holds this level of faith no longer requires proof or evidence to believe, as they have consistently experienced the goodness and faithfulness of GOD. HE has become their hope (Psa 38:15, Psa 39:7, Psa 62:5-8, Psa 71:5-6, Heb 6:13-20), their shield (2 Sam 22:3, 2 Sam 22:31-33, Psa 3:3, Psa 18:2-3, Psa 28:7-9) and their refuge (Psa 5:11, Psa 61:3-4, Psa 91:2-4, Pro 18:10).

How can one have faith at this level? Only through our Precious LORD & SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST. HE introduces us to faith, and then develops it through HIS examples of trusting and obeying ABBA FATHER at all times, in every situation (Heb 12:2).

What does introduction to faith look like? One is introduced to faith by literally hearing about HIM (Rom 10:13-17). We see this occurring throughout The BIBLE, but we will look at four New Testament examples:
1. A man filled with a legion of demons received deliverance (Mrk 5:1-19, -Luk 8:26-39), went home to Decapolis and testified about all JESUS had done for him (Mrk 5:20), causing others who heard his testimony to seek JESUS for themselves (Mat 4:23-25, Mrk 7:31-37).
2. The hemorrhaging woman was part of a crowd who heard about JESUS, and was waiting for HIS return (Luk 8:40). By faith she touched the hem of HIS cloak, receiving her healing at once (Luk 8:43-48). Others begin to seek JESUS out, pleading with HIM to touch the hem of HIS cloak (Mrk 6:53-56).
3. The Samaritan woman at the well returned to her city after spending time with JESUS, telling others about her encounter and that she had met The CHRIST (Jhn 4:28-30). Many of the Samaritans believed in JESUS because of the Samaritan woman’s testimony about HIM (Jhn 4:39-42).
4. A lame man in Lystra listening to the apostle Paul preach The Gospel of JESUS CHRIST, received faith to be healed (Act 14:7-10).

How is this faith developed? It happens in five ways. First, there is a response to the message. In the four examples of “introduction to faith” mentioned above, all responded to the message about JESUS CHRIST and received deliverance, healing and salvation. Second, there is a building on that initial response, through a continued response of trusting and obeying all subsequent messages. This continued response, begins to form an intimate relationship with our Beloved LORD JESUS CHRIST (Mat 12:48-50, Jhn 15:14, Jam 2:21-23). Third, this intimacy deepens as one faithfully seeks to know HIM (Psa 27:8, Psa 105:4), to know HIS will (Exd 33:13, Psa 25:4-5, Psa 119:12, Psa 143:10, Rom 12:2, Eph 5:17, Col 1:9-10, 1 Ths 4:3-7), and consistently seeks HIS guidance and strength to do HIS will (Php 3:9, Rom 9:30-32, Gal 2:16-21). Fourth, by experiencing the truthfulness of HIS WORD (Psa 119:160, Psa 119:142, Psa 119:151, Jhn 17:17) in every situation, HE becomes our trust and refuge. And fifth, by never forgetting WHO HE is and what HE has done (Psa 103:1-5, Psa 78:11-22, Psa 106:9-14), our confidence in and reliance upon HIM grows.

What is Assurance of things hoped for? It is the absolute certainty, total trust, and complete confidence in the expectation of receiving good from our Beloved LORD GOD.

When should one hope/expect to receive good from The LORD? Our expectations should be for both this temporal life, and our eternal life. In this temporal life because we know that our Beloved LORD GOD is good, compassionate, merciful, we expect that HE hears our prayers (Psa 4:3, Psa 116:1-2, Pro 15:29, Jhn 9:31, 1 Jhn 5:14-15), and works every situation out for good (Rom 8:28). Looking to our eternal life, we hope for redemption of our physical bodies (Rom 8:23-25, 1 Cor 15:51-58, 1 Ths 4:13-18); salvation of our souls (1 Ths 1:10, 1 Ths 5:9-10, 1 Pet 1:9); and receive all that HE has promised us if we persevere to the end (Rom 2:7, Heb 9:15, Heb 11:8-16, Jhn 14:2-3, 2 Tim 4:8, Jam 1:12, Rev 2:10-11, Rev 2:17, Rev 2:25-27, Rev 3:5, Rev 3:10-13, Rev 3:21, Rev 21:3-7, Rev 22:1-6).

What is the Conviction of things not seen? It means to be fully convinced, have belief that is not moved by physical circumstances, to be firmly persuaded of things not seen by the physical eye.

How can this happen? It happens with spiritual rebirth. At physical birth, approximately ninety-five percent are born with physical sight. Which means they have been given sight to see what is around them, the temporal things (2 Cor 4:18). At spiritual rebirth our spirit comes alive (Jhn 3:6), and the eyes of our hearts are enlightened (Psa 119:18, Eph 1:18-19, Act 26:18) so that we may see the unseen, the invisible, the eternal, the spiritual (2 Cor 4:18). That is why a man born again walks by faith in the unseen, not the appearance of what is seen (2 Cor 5:7).

Why must one be born again spiritually? Because our Beloved LORD GOD is Spirit (Jhn 4:24) and to become HIS child and a part of HIS spiritual Kingdom, we must undergo a second spiritual birth (Jhn 1:12-13, Jhn 3:3-8). At which HE sends HIS Holy SPIRIT into our hearts (Gal 4:6, Rom 8:-11), opening our spiritual eyes and ears (Isa 29:18). Granting us the ability to know our unseen GOD (1 Pet 1:8, 1 Tim 1:17), be aware of our unseen enemies (Eph 6:12), be instructed by HIS Holy SPIRIT (Psa 32:8, Psa 25:12, Isa 30:20-21, Jhn 14:26, Jhn 16:13) and be led by HIM (Jhn 10:3-5, Jhn 10:24-27, Rom 8:14-17).

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but The SPIRIT WHO is from GOD
So that we may know the things freely given to us by GOD
Which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by The SPIRIT
Combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words
But a natural man does not accept the things of The SPIRIT of GOD, for they are foolishness to him
And he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised
But he who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no one
For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, THAT HE WILL INSTRUCT HIM?
But we have the mind of CHRIST
1 Corinthians 2:12-16

I Will Trust HIM No Matter What

I will Trust HIM no matter whatI just want to take this time and give my Beloved LORD GOD glory, honor and praise. HE has been so faithful, and a very present help throughout my life. Many times and in many ways I have faced very difficult circumstances, sometimes so severe that the words from Psalm 94:17-19, echoed from my heart:

If GOD hadn’t been there for me,
I never would have made it.
The minute I said, “I’m slipping, I’m falling,”
YOUR love, GOD, took hold and held me fast.
When I was upset and beside myself,
YOU calmed me down and cheered me up.
(THE MESSAGE translation)

Because of HIS consistent love, faithfulness and help, I realized in the midst of my latest trial HE truly has brought me to a place where regardless of the outcome, I trust HIM.

I know that HE loves me, and all things are working together for good. And my present circumstances nor the eventual outcome will change my love, trust and confidence in HIM. HE indeed is a good, good FATHER.

The severe pain I am currently suffering from shingles does not stop my soul from greatly rejoicing in my Beloved LORD GOD. These past few weeks have given me understanding of the prophet Habakkuk’s words in Habakkuk 3:17-19:

Though the fig tree should not blossom
And there be no fruit on the vines,
Though the yield of the olive should fail
And the fields produce no food,
Though the flock should be cut off from the fold
And there be no cattle in the stalls,
Yet I will exult in The LORD,
I will rejoice in The GOD of my salvation.
The LORD GOD is my strength,
And HE has made my feet like hinds’ feet,
And makes me walk on my high places.
For the choir director, on my stringed instruments.
(NASB translation)

How GOD Makes our Faith Greater Than our Fear (Part 6 – Understanding what JESUS did on Our Behalf and Why we too must Suffer)

For Consider HIM 3

In Hebrews 12:3, when our Beloved LORD GOD says “for consider HIM WHO has endured such hostility by sinners against HIMSELF,” HE is telling us to gain understanding, by thinking about how our Precious LORD JESUS CHRIST persisted despite such hatred against HIMSELF from ungodly men. By doing this, when we undergo trials, tribulations and persecutions in this life; we will not grow fatigued in our minds, and lack the courage or lose the will to obey HIM. In John 15:20, HE forewarned us “remember the word that I said to you, ‘a slave is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted ME, they will also persecute you; if they kept MY WORD, they will keep yours also.”

In this sixth and final part of our study in Hebrews 12:1-3, we will carefully study the different ways our Beloved LORD JESUS CHRIST suffered hostility from ungodly men, and how HE endured until the end.

When many people think about how CHRIST suffered, they usually only consider the illegal Jewish trial of the *Sanhedrin the night before HIS crucifixion (Mat 26:31-68), and the Gentile trials (Herod-Luk 23:6-12, Luk 23:15 and Pilate-Luk 23:1-5, Luk 23:13-25) the day of HIS crucifixion (Mat 27:1-56). In this study, we will definitely look at the suffering of our Beloved LORD JESUS in the final hours of HIS earthly life, but we will also consider HIS sufferings during HIS ministry (Isa 53:3-4).

The night before our Precious SAVIOR JESUS was crucified, HE suffered severely, both emotionally and physically. The physician Luke (Col 4:14), the writer of Luke and Acts, carefully describes the severe emotional state of our Beloved SAVIOR in the garden of gethsemane. Luke cited four indicators of our SAVIOR’s extreme emotional suffering (Luk 22:41-44):
1) An angel from heaven appeared to HIM, strengthening HIM (Luk 22:43, Isa 41:10). Literally and angel from heaven came and made himself visible to our Precious LORD JESUS, increasing the strength of GOD’s only begotten SON to complete the tasks set before HIM, in the last critical hours of HIS earthly life.
2) HE was in agony (Luk 22:44). The English word “agony” was transliterated from the Greek word “agoonia” (NT:74) and it means to be in a state of severe emotional strain and anguish.
3) HE prayed very fervently (Luk 22:44). HE prayed with intentness of mind. HIS thoughts were not wandering, they were focused and earnest.
4) HIS sweat became like drops of blood (Luk 22:44). HE was experiencing hematidrosis, a very rare condition which occurs under extreme physical or emotional stress.

Our Beloved CHRIST was taken from the garden of gethsemane (Mat 26:36, Jhn 18:26) by a large group of Roman soldiers and officers of the chief priest and Pharisees (Jhn 18:3) to the illegal Jewish trials of the Sanhedrin. In these trials HE suffered severe physical injury. Our Beloved SAVIOR was first taken to Annas, a former Jewish high priest and father-in-law of the current Jewish high priest Caiaphas (Luk 3:1-2, Jhn 18:12-24). During HIS questioning by Annas, HE was struck in the face by one of the officers of the chief priests and Pharisees (Jhn 18:19-23). During HIS questioning by Caiaphas, where the scribes and the elders were also gathered (Mat 26:57), the men who were holding our Beloved SAVIOR in custody, spat in HIS face, slapped HIS face, blindfolded HIM, beat HIM with their fists, tore out HIS beard, and mocked HIM (Isa 50:6-7, Mat 26:64-68, Mrk 14:65, Luk 22:63-65). By the time HE was delivered to Pilate the next morning, the day of HIS crucifixion (Mat 27:1-2), HE had been kept up all night, and was already swollen, bruised and bloodied from HIS severe beatings the night before.

On the day our SAVIOR was crucified HE endured a beating by the Roman soldiers so vicious that HE was not even recognizable (Isa 52:14). To fully understand how ruthless this beating was; blood vessels were ruptured, muscles were sliced through, flesh was ripped from HIS body and hung in shreds. This savage beating, caused HIM to lose a massive amount of blood. After the violent beating by the Roman soldiers, they then sadistically twisted together a crown of thorns and drove it into HIS scalp. And like the officers of the Jews they mocked HIM, spat on HIM, and began to beat HIS head with a reed, driving the crown of thorns deeper (Mat 27:27-31, Mrk 15:16-19). By the time HE was led away to be crucified HE had lost at least 20% of HIS blood, which put HIM into hypovolemic shock. HE was unable to carry HIS own cross to the execution site (Mrk 15:16-23). A detailed account of what our Beloved SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST suffered, can be found online in an article first published in Arizona Medicine, March 1965. This article written by Dr. C. Truman Davis is titled “The Crucifixion of JESUS CHRIST, A medical explanation of what JESUS endured the day HE died.” I cannot even begin to comprehend the love of our GOD, that HE would willingly become flesh (Mat 1:21-23, Act 20:28, Heb 10:4-7), to endure such horrific suffering so we could be saved from ours sins.

Our Precious JESUS CHRIST not only suffered severely in the final hours of HIS earthly life, but HE also suffered throughout HIS ministry (Isa 49:7, Isa 53:3, Psa 69:7). From the very beginning Satan tried to entice HIM to sin through temptation (Mat 4:1-11, Luk 4:1-13, Heb 2:18, Heb 4:15); HE was constantly tested (Mat 22:15-22, Mrk 8:11-13, Luk 10:25-37) and persecuted by religious men (Psa 109:1-5, Jhn 15:20-25, Mat 9:9-13, Mat 9:32-34, Mat 12:2, Mat 12:9-14-please note in the Scriptures highlighted in blue the different places these religious men followed our JESUS CHRIST in order to harass and persecute HIM); Many rejected HIS message (Mat 11:20-24, Jhn 6:41-66, Jhn 12:36-50); Several times the Jews attempted to kill HIM for blasphemy (Luk 4:16-30, Jhn 7:1, Jhn 8:31-59); HE was estranged from HIS own relatives (Psa 69:8, Mat 13:53-58, Mrk 3:20-21, Jhn 7:2-10).

Our Beloved LORD GOD has told us, HIS faithful followers, serving HIM would not be easy. HE told us “through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of GOD.” (Acts 14:22). HE also told us “indeed, all who desire to live godly in CHRIST JESUS will be persecuted.” (2 Tim 3:12). And we must daily, deny self, take up our cross and follow HIM (Mat 10:37-39, Luk 9:23-25, Luk 14:25-33).

Why does considering the suffering of JESUS, help me to endure as a Christian? First, by reflecting on how much HE suffered for us, we are given assurance of HIS love and concern (Jhn 15:13, Rom 5:8, Rom 8:38-39). Second, HE understands our suffering (Heb 2:17-18, Heb 4:14-16) so HE is there to intercede and strengthen us (Rom 8:34-37, Heb 7:24-25, Heb 9:24, 2 Ths 3:3, 2 Tim 4:17-18, 1 Pet 5:6-11). Third, HIS perfect example of trusting ABBA FATHER in the midst of adversity, encourages us to do the same. Knowing that our Beloved LORD GOD is:
Omniscient, very aware of what we are going through (Job 34:21-23, Psa 139:1-6, Heb 4:13, 1 Jhn 3:20)
Omnipresent, will not leave us alone in our suffering (Psa 46:1, Psa 139:7-10, Psa 145:18, Heb 13:5-6)
Omnipotent, there is nothing too difficult for HIM (Jer 32:17, Mat 19:26, Mrk 10:27, Luk 1:37)
And when we fully grasp that HIS eyes are continually upon those who love HIM, to strongly support them (2 Chr 16:9), we are able to trust that HE will never abandon or forsake us (1 Sam 12:22, Psa 94:14), which allows us to rest in HIM (Mat 11:28-29, Isa 32:17). It is within this rest (Psa 46:10) we will come to understand WHO HE is (Psa 100:3, Jhn 10:14, Act 20:28) and realize, our Beloved LORD JESUS CHRIST:
Never lost focus on eternal matters (Mrk 8:31-33, Jhn 9:4-5, Jhn 18:36-38, Jhn 19:7-11), so we must not lose focus on eternal matters (2 Cor 4:16-18, Col 3:1-3, Heb 11:13-16)
Was always obedient (Jhn 5:30, Jhn 6:38, Jhn 8:29) to the very end (Luk 22:42, Jhn 19:28-30), so we must be obedient to the very end (Mat 24:12-13, Jhn 14:15, Jhn 14:23-24, 1 Jhn 5:2-3)
Never returned evil for evil (Isa 53:7, 1 Pet 2:23), so we must never return evil for evil (Rom 12:17, 1 Ths 5:15, 1 Pet 3:8-9)
Entrusted HIMSELF to our Beloved LORD GOD (1 Pet 2:21-23), as we must entrust ourselves to HIM (1 Pet 4:19)

For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you
Truly, truly, I say to you
A slave is not greater than his master, nor is one who is sent greater than The ONE who sent him
John 13:15-16

* The Sanhedrin was the highest court and council of the ancient Jewish nation. It had both religious and civil functions. It was abolished with the Roman destruction of Jerusalem and the temple in 70 AD (Luk 19:41-44, Mat 23:37-39, Luk 13:33-35).
