Silence

Psalm 62:5-6

Recently I was meditating on self-control (one of the nine attributes of the fruit of The SPIRIT, Gal 5:22-23). I asked our Beloved LORD GOD how was HIS self-control manifested? HE answered “silence” As I meditated on HIS answer, HE reminded me through HIS WORD, that HE is gracious, compassionate, and merciful (Exd 34:6-7, Psa 86:15, Psa 145:8-9, Jam 5:11). HE does not desire for anyone to perish (Eze 18:30-32).

Being merciful, HE does not quickly carry out the sentence against sin (Ecc 8:11), patiently waiting in silence (Psa 50:21), giving the ungodly time and opportunity to turn from their sin (Rom 2:4, 2 Pet 3:9, Rev 2:21).

I then wondered about the other times HE is silent. HE then explained through Scripture, HE is inherently gentle, humble, and quiet (1 Kin 19:11-13, Isa 42:2, Mat 11:29). Not only does silence reflect HIS self-control and patience (Isa 42:14, Isa 57:11), but HIS love and instruction (Zep 3:17, Isa 30:21, Psa 119:105). Which causes my soul to rest in HIM, like a weaned child rests upon their mother (Psa 131:2).

I then inquired, how is HIS self-control reflected in the life of a Christian? In the same manner, through silence. This silence only comes through completely trusting GOD (Jer 17:7-8, Isa 26:4, Psa 56:3-11, Psa 40:4), and living your life in union with CHRIST JESUS (Jhn 15:1-8, Jhn 14:23). When our Beloved LORD GOD is present, HE strengthens our soul, quiets our mind, speaks peace to our heart, holds our tongues, teaching us when to speak and when to remain silent.

When HE strengthens our soul, our will is strengthened, enabling us to stand firm against the schemes of the devil (Eph 6:11, 1 Tim 6:7-10, Eph 4:14, Mat 4:1-11). When HE quiets our mind, our thoughts are quieted, and fixed on HIM (Isa 26:3, Col 3:2-3, Php 4:8, 2 Cor 10:5). When HE speaks peace to our heart, our emotions are not affected by circumstances, as we silently wait for HIM (Exd 14:14, Psa 37:7, Lam 3:26, Jhn 14:27). When HE teaches us to hold our tongues, we do not sin with our mouth (Psa 141:3, Psa 39:1, Pro 21:23, Pro 13:3, Jam 1:26, Jam 3:2).

My soul waits in silence for GOD only
From HIM is my salvation
HE only is my rock and my salvation
My stronghold
I shall not be greatly shaken
Psalm 62:1-2
